I have just bought a CLK55 amg on a 54 and it has the keyless go buttons on the doors and the button on the gear selector but none of them work. The guy who sold it said all 55s come with them but the option was not always selected and so was not hooked up to work. I hope this makes sense to anyone reading.

Is this true or is he pulling a fast one?

I don't really care if it works or not, I just want to know if he's being honest

A quick Google of CLK interiors says not true. Frankly I'd have been surprised if it was - it's not how MB do things.

As per above Mercedes don’t fit anything that doesn’t work - they fit switch blanks now, they used to have individual dashboards with only the switch cut outs for what was installed.
It will have been keyless go, it’s now keyless gone...

Make sure the last owner still hasn't the keyless go card or key..................You might find your recent purchase not where you left it

Look on the data card for the options that were fitted to the car and decipher the codes. Use an online VIN decoder and put the VIN in to see if KG was originally fitted.
If its there it would have been fitted.

The guy who sold it said all 55s come with them but the option was not always selected and so was not hooked up to work. Nonsense. MB sometimes prewire certain extras but dont put all the finals parts on display when prewired.

Thanks gents, I'm popping back to the dealer today.

I wonder what else he has told tales about.

The dealer is trying to fob you off with that excuse. He knows it needs new door handles at around £180 each + fitting, and the KG button needs to be put on Star diagnostics to determine the fault. Needs to go to main dealer or an indy to fix, not any general garage.

You can get door handles repaired for £100 if I recall correctly.

Most often this happens due to someone ordering replacement key(s) and receive non-Keyless-Go versions. They are less expensive so seller may be motivated to have a spare key to go with the car, but would not spend the extra cash for the KG keys.

I have a 221 S600 that I wanted two additional keys for - I never suspected an issue as they after all ordered from the VIN. The two keys arrived and were put in a safe location for six month or more after a lock/unlock test to verify functionality. Then one day I went to use the nice shiny key and the car did not recognize me. No door pop or lock, no window close holding KG door ha doe button, and no start unless ENGINE START/STOP removed.

If you disassemble the keys and compare them, you will notice the KG has two transducer coils compared to one on a “standard” SmartKey. If you have your car configured for key-dependent memory for seats, A/C, etc, you will discover that it has the personality of two keys. If KG is used- one set of stored parameters are recalled, and if you avoid KG functionality another set of parameters are used.
