It will just put the costs up for anyone getting any work done in London. That’s all.

And the longer wait for a contractor, it’s bad enough now.

Sorry, but how does me paying an extra £12.50 to drive in London make the air cleaner?

I see it makes me poorer and TFL richer, but my car doesn't produce less emmisions as a result?

It's about revenue generation, nothing else - all wrapped up in an environment package

All the more reason to stay away from the capital. I feel sorry for the people living there within the congestion charge zone that have a pre 2016 van and need to make a living. £24 a day just for the privilege of being in the heart of London!

I'm surprised my 2002 C240 is exempt given the annual tax is over £300.

^ My E55 is exempt as well.
Surprising given the engine size and output but it must be clean(ish) to pass the emission level.

There are two zones for emissions charges the LEZ which is the same area as the congestion charges which will affect mainly commercial vehicles, are you sure you haven't just checked for this? then in the news today ULEZ which is the City of London, LEZ will change in 2020 which can only mean one thing

The ULEZ standards are:

  • Euro 3 for motorcycles, mopeds, motorised tricycles and quadricycles (L category)
  • Euro 4 (NOx) for petrol cars, vans, minibuses and other specialist vehicles
  • Euro 6 (NOx and PM) for diesel cars, vans and minibuses and other specialist vehicles
  • Euro VI (NOx and PM) for lorries, buses and coaches and other specialist heavy vehicles (NOx and PM)
Just another good reason not to venture within the M25 for me :D

It will deter lots of smelly emiters from driving in central London, where pollution is an issue. Not a very complex idea. Wealthy smelly emiters will be unaffected, but that's hardly a majority.

ULEZ nothing to do with CO2 .

Derv - high low rpm torque , high mpg , low CO2 thus low VED , higher particulates and NOx , ULEZ probable .

Petrol - lower mpg , higher CO2 thus higher VED , lower particulates and NOx , ULEZ probably not subject .

Information on the TFL website is straight-forward plain and simple;

Cars
London Road User Charging

Cars need to meet minimum emissions standards when travelling within the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) or the daily charge must be paid.

Minimum emission standards
Petrol: Euro 4
Diesel: Euro 6

The ULEZ is enforced based on the declared emissions of the vehicle rather than the age. However:

  • Petrol cars that meet the ULEZ standards are generally those first registered with the DVLA after 2005, although cars that meet the standards have been available since 2001
  • Diesel cars that meet the standards are generally those first registered with the DVLA after September 2015
