Just checking the oil on my new to me C350.

I found the dipstick tube waggles around.

This is a pic of the top rear of the right hand side of the engine

You can see the dipstick tube with a bracket attached with a hole in it

You can see there is a tab on the engine block with threaded hole.

It looks like there should be a bolt holding the bracket to this threaded hole.

Now i can't get the bracket into position over the hole, its maybe 15mm higher than the threaded hole.

Almost as if there should be a spacer between them?

You can see my dipstick tube is angled unlike the EPC diagram - and it looks like a bolt should just go through there:

The car has had lambda and NOx sensors recently so I assume something has been left off....

Should I just go ahead and manipulate the dipstick tube down to the tab on the block and stick a bolt in?

Anyone else got this engine can take a quick look at how the dipstick tube is secured to the block at the top?

Thanks.

you say bracket is attached to dip stick , if this is the case then if you put a stud in the bracket will you still be able to remove dip stick without removing the stud. ?

Just to add it would be easy enough to put the spacer in , as long as it’s the correct dip stick and hopefully the previous owner had not stuck any other dip stick in from different car.
Could you search for a new dip stick for your car online and it might show the length then you could measure yours to check its correct length , perhaps there’s a 15 mm stopper that slides up the dip stick and makes a collor at the top
this would also take the slack out of yours if this was missing.

The EPC diagram shows 2 retaining brackets, one up high on the tube and the 2nd down where it enters the sump...can you check if both of them are in place???

Right thanks all for looking in and helping.

I took another look, higher up there is a bit of thread poking up with sharp end, almost like a bolt has sheared off.

The bracket on the dipstick tube would fall perfectly on this.

However the looms above would then block the dipstick handle. But they don't look routed correctly to me, clips are not home and theres some rubbing gone on.

If anyone has this M276 engine would you please please be able to take a photo of this corner for me and see where the dipstick tube fits to the block?

The car was worked on my a very well renowned specialist who replaced the lambda and nox sensors below this....I don't think they've put things back right. Unfortunately they are 250miles away from me now.
