As I stated earlier, my car was sold as a Euro 5 emissions car and it was performing within operational parameters on it's last MOT so I'm not breaking any emissions laws, I'm not aware of anything not working on my car that needs fixing?

Does your MOT test include gas analysis of NOx, CO2 and particulate emissions?
If not then how can you make a statement like that?

My MOT test will be exactly the same as the rest of the nations so frankly I'm surprised you of all people should ask such a leading question, my MOT test certificate states Diesel Emission Test Results, Overall Result of Emissions Test: Passed. So whatever the software does analyse, the DVSA has deemed it appropriate for me to continue paying my £30 per Annum Road Tax for a Euro 5 class vehicle.

So in other words it passed a smoke test. Nothing more, nothing less.
You could have massive NOx emissions and the test will not find it.
With petrol cars they at least check for certain gases - HC and CO.
The diesel test is a joke.

Then I guess the DVSA need to make some changes to the Diesel tests and the MOT Stations will need to buy additional hard/software to conform, until then it is what it is.

That was my point. The test for diesel engines is simply an opacity test - as in how dense are the exhaust gases. No measure of content.
The test is well overdue an update. If proper testing if content comes in DPF removal will become easily detected (as will failing DPFs).

And you believe him?

Why wouldn't I? He confirmed to me a note was put on their internal system not to update the ECU, I certainly don't expect to be lied to by one of the dealerships.

After further discussions I'm not too sure now so I had a look into my ECM on my MB v2 scanner and found the following Software Status, so I'll know for sure if any updates have been applied post service.

I was surprised to read of all the chatter on this and other forum about CAT, EGR and DPF deletions and believed that the MOT tests would pick these up eventually, how wrong was I?

If they do, and I don't, then I'll be none the wiser. I don't know what evidence you have, to have formulated your negative opinions of the MOT test but it would appear I have a little more faith in the standards and integrity of the industry than you clearly do, or don't as the case may be. I've been working with a local motor engineer for the last 35 years or thereabouts and I trust his professionalism, where in contrast, I have dealt with MB Stratstone for just over a Year where I have been lied to twice, rejected the first draft of my current Service Plan agreement as it was in contravention to E Mail discussions and seen far too many examples of MB or other dealerships on this forum alone, taking advantage of either the innocence and/or ignorance of their customers to be comfortable in just taking their word at face value.

a number of responses

I was a motor vehicle tech for many years, I still know plenty who still are, I have three MOT places where I regularly "see how it works" whilst the authorities claim they are trying to tighten it up, you can still very easily get a MOT without them ever seeing the vehicle!

one should never forget its only a pass at the instant it was checked, as one can always drive round the corner swap over to a bald tyre, put the a cracked headlamp back in etc. Last time I was in they had a chap who'd brought in 6 cars all using the same wheels in a day. They have to pass it as its legit as they do it.

The whole idea is a joke. And your government has been trying to stretch the first MOT to 5 years, even though that could have a sales guys at 150k before anyone notices he's been on the canvas for last 8k miles.

for emissions until last couple of years the fumes in the average garage was enough to get a pass certificate. after they tightened that up, for the last 2 years it actually needs a car to hand to produce a pass ! So you put the emission pipe in a different car ! In an attempt to reduce this they are now bringing in idea of connecting it up electronically for testing.

As for the Map multiple fixes you want
2 x deliberate fake faults they've been told to write out of the original map, (fake EML light-with corresponding lie on the diagnostics and Temp sensor fun)
? x goodness knows how many rehashes to the DPF to regen correctly
1 x poorly developed illegal map, (even before the emission crookery they've always just bodged it up so it runs to get sales coming in, then tweak how it drives over the next year or so)

with far more back lash than anyone expected do you really think any major manu chief exec can afford to "know" they have car's with imbedded fun out on the streets?

They will pick it up eventually. Then those who have done it will have a big bill to put it right.

Well there are criminal elements in all branches of society, I would avoid those if I were you.
