Just had a look at the Mercedes Used search and the age you're looking at is "Jupiter Red"
Not seen any threads on here with issues with that colour so you may well be able to get away from "constantly needing a wash" Black :D
I thought I'd read somewhere that Jupiter red is the US name for Fire Opal Red? In which case isn't this the exact same finish?

Actually I may be mistaken as I think it's Mars red that's the same as Fire Opal.
My apologies

Isn't Mars Red a VAG colour though ? :)

I am in the process of persuading my wife that we need a new car. Unfortunately Fire Opal Red really takes my fancy. I am thinking in terms of a CLA at the moment possibly 2 to 3 years old. :)

Would that colour be safe at that age ? I would assume MB have taken steps to do something about the problems they have had with it?

Now I'm not thinking in terms of a CLA. having now read the various reviews they are not good. :( It's back to plan 'A' which is a W205 'C' class, probably a C200 petrol :)

Looking at Mercedes (which I do a lot...) the E-Class consistently comes out as the best value - you can get a new one for <£30K

My wife after months of negotiations, and after me agreeing to make the period fire place (1847) which I like into a small inglenook, a new floor in the front bedroom and new furniture in both rooms, has agreed to an up to 18k budget for a new car. That includes the current car as P/X. She has also decided that an 'E' is too big which was the reason I thought the CLA would be the answer. That was until I read the crap reviews and the references to the dual clutch being too ponderous and the poor rear passenger space. Anything for a quiet life I supposed.

I’d say (I’m like that) is take her out for a test drive in one. With the 360’ camera which a lot have they’re easy to park (they will park themselves as well). There’s also a lot of metal around your loved ones (great safety point with the management). They’re in no way big or unruly to drive

I saw one less than a year old for 17k awhile back! So W213 we’ll within you generous budget

^ Seconded - best value out there the W213 E220d 9spd
You pay more for an A-Class FFS! A tiny shopping trolley that’s depressingly black inside which you bang your head every time you get in and out and has a small boot (which leaks...)

My wife shares the OP's wife's opinion of the E class but absolutely loves our S204 C220 - on one occasion at the supermarket we actually parked right next to an E estate and she said it was Massive - a bit like my reaction to the R class!

Although our car had most of the option boxes ticked by the original buyer, there were a couple of missing things that we've just today corrected - namely a reversing camera and parking sensors - I've only had them fitted to the front as rears would have added £400 to an already large bill! First impression - should have done this long ago, wife is well pleased.

The estate is also a very practical option - for a start, loading the groceries at the supermarket is easy - boot lid lifts at the press of a button on the key fob (and push button on the lid to close), low loading lip and decent load area. Back seat folds for the trip from Ikea :)eek::eek:) or booze cruise to Calais :)):)).

Look for full leather, heated seats, electric tailgate, Bluetooth (or telephone pre-wiring if your mobiles will work with one of the cradle options, unfortunately our Samsung A10's will not), parktronic, reversing camera.

Why a 205? How about looking at a low mileage well maintained post 11/08 but pre facelift (MY11?) 204 with Comand NTG4 so you can update the maps yourself rather cheaper than the subsequent NTG4.5 and later?

With my £18,000 budget tightly clasped in my hand I have been looking around. This may be a long and extended search as I am extremely fussy. I really wanted another MB which would have been my 4th.

However during my search this caught my eye, what do you think ?

I was also looking at the XE's along with the C Class Coupe. The Jags are nice but better half thought it was too big. I got side tracked in the end and ended up with the SLK - thats what test drives do to you....

With regard to lacquer peeling and no issues with Jupiter Red. I have a A class Jupiter Red, and lacquer is peeling on the spoiler edge nearest the main roof.
Nowhere else. Could the spoiler be Fire Opal Red on it’s own. Have they just changed the name for the same colour.

Hi all,

I’m new to this and only recently bought my Mercedes c class 6 months ago. Basically the the clear coat has started peeling off in three different areas of the car and there seems to be microblistering in all the panels aswell. I’ve done some research and it seems to be a common problem with this type of color, there’s even been lawsuits against Mercedes about it.

I took it to the dealership yesterday and the guy basically said that because I’ve bought it from a private seller, Ive basically bought it with the paint defect from that seller (if that makes sense)? But it’s still running the original paint so I don’t understand why that would be an issue. It’s a 2014 model with FMSH and 1 previous owner. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to go about it?

Cheers
Sam
Hi I too am having problems with the lacquer peeling off my 4 year old E250 CLK.Also the warranty, service and not purchased from a dealer have all been raised! The local agent tested and confirmed all original. However not their problem! I'm not sure where to go surely paintwork undamaged should last 20 years. Their corrosion warranty is up to 30 years but as this is not a corrosion problem there appears to be no recourse.Any ideas?
