Sounds to me that there may be a leak somewhere.
Probably best to get it checked over.
I would have expected you to have got a lot more than 72 miles out of it!

As a matter of course they usually recommend that the lpg system is checked each year.

That needs checking out. As said, the engine can't be burning that much without notiveably running very badly so the gas is being lost somewhere.

If the loss only happens when driving the smell might not be noticeable in the cabin.

What is the fuel consumption like running on petrol? If petrol consumption is normal the problem must be in the LPG system.

Find a local installer of the system fitted and get it checked out urgently.

If you are losing that volume of gas the potential fire risk is very high. 62 litres of LPG is enough to fill a mile of the Channel Tunnel with flame!! Which is why they don't let LPG powered cars through.

unless of course it was not filled properly and the gas was escaping as you were filling it - is that possible?

It needs to be checked as as soon as you can as it may be dangerous.

Do you know what LPG equipment is fitted? You need to find an installer of that equipment. The UKLPG site has a listing of installers in your area if you are in the UK.

You should have been given the certification documents for the LPG system with the car when you bought it. This will show what equipment was fitted and by whom.
