You should never go in guns blazing and being reasonable is always the best policy. My issue with your post ST4 is that i do not believe the original poster is being deliberately obtuse. Or do I think that asking for what you wanted in the first place is deliberately obtuse. The OP should point out the negatives of the situation and how they have come about through no fault of the OP, and ask what MB will do to rectify the situation.

My main point is that no matter how much money is involved these days businesses take for granted customer's good grace and that they will get the business no matter what. That is why when members on here get good customer service (like I do with Harrogate) we rave about it, and, when we don't, we voice are discord.( ie Belfast)

There is no point arguing with ST4. He is like that on the other forum and I actually got banned because of him and a bunch of his internet mates. I have been on this site for 3 years now and not so much as a warning. Why? because 99% of people on here are decent people who just want to talk about cars and not wind up other people.

The OP has every right to reject the car if he is not happy with it. I reject £50 shoes for the slightest crease even though I know creases will appear on first use but thats just me. Why shouldnt OP reject a £35,000 car if it is not as he ordered.

I have just received an email from the dealership, they want to deregister the car, and give me my deposit back, shake my hand and say sorry, however they need to deregister the car, in order to do so, I have been given a letter drafted by them, in which it says that I want to deregister the vehicle, as I am having financial difficulties!!!!, and not that they have f...ed the order up. As this is the only reason dvla will allow it!!, so rather than solve my problem, they are asking me to lye to the dvla so that they can save their own a.s, and give me nothing for my 8-9 weeks of waiting and disappointment.

What do you reackon to that??

I'd be wanting a sit down meeting with the dealer principal about this.

Take a witness.

Do not agree to anything on the basis of that meeting without written documentation of any offer and then decide away from the dealership.

You are now holding all the cards in the discussion. Stay calm and see what they say about it.

End of the day, you can certainly escalate it to MBUK and report the dealership for their tardiness.

A f*cked up order is one thing to deal with, an attempt to defraud the DVLA and have you lie about your personal situation is another completely.

I wouldn't darken their door.
Do it all by e-mail when you have finished laughing at this ludicrous notion of declaring yourself skint to expedite the unravelling of their cocked up order.
Typing no and s*d off shouldn't be too taxing.
There is little to consult your tea leaves with never mind a Solicitor.
I think this will sort itself when someone polishes up a few brain cells.
Best thinking of what to adorn the drive with.

EmilysMum used to work in he Local Vehicle Licensing Office in Pompey many moons ago (before there was an Emily ;)) and unless things have changed in the past 20+ years, you can't de-register a vehicle. Some dealer tried to the this when they'd bu66ered up numbers of cars ordered & were upset when told they couldn't.

I really do not think that you understand what has to be done to replace the windows, everything in the door has to come out, all the factory settings lost.
All C pillar trim has to come out to do the rear window, it is a massive job and if you have never tried to do this or fully understand you should not say its easy, it is far more than the little plastic clips that hold the door cards on, the car would never be the same again.

W204 and W212 are bulit like VWs with a removable inner door pan with all the gubbins on it, there's so little to them that it won't be a problem if the windows have to come out.

It is the door liner, plus the inner sealing rail, plus a little more, I looked it up, its the CLs that are pigs to do

I find it hard that a Mercedes dealer will not do the right thing and get this over with.

The OP sound like a reasonable fella so I am sure he will accept the car if the dealer did the following

  • Refund of the price of privacy glass
  • debadge the car
  • Remove the extra £300 that has been added to his balloon
  • Throw in a free service (this will be an A service and technically costs the dealer nil)

How hard is it to do the above? Even if they lost a £1000, which I doubt they would, Isnt this reasonable consdering that the cock up was from their end.

As its worth, I do feel now is the time to be more firm. A polite, please fit the factory tinted glass to the car, debadge and chuck in a service really was the only practical solution to both parties. If they want to act unreasonable, then you can to.

For what it has worth, I have reported your post for baiting and trolling.

All I will say on the subject is that you said you wished me and my family were to die. I did admittably say drop dead to you, but only after you flamed me for saying I agreed with you. BTW, I meant that as a joke. I know you post here and tried to avoid the subject of your sense of humour failure, but if you bring it up, then so will I.

Quite frankly. I actually agree with your recent post, but you now may wish me and my family to die horribly for that.

I do not think an Email would stand up in court,,they can be changed

Print it off. MB as they are supplying the car on finance are therefore regulated by the FSA, or MB Finance is. Anyway, they have to act to a certain principle. FSA principle six is a firm must treat its customer fairly. Getting someone to admit financial difficultly is not treating them fairly.

What the OP should ask for is the lend of the off spec car, and them to order up the right spec car and he give back the off spec car once the right one arrives or get them to fit the glass, debadge the off spec car. Either of those would be treating the customer fairly.

Please note guys, that the dealer suggested that they would not entertain the idea of replacing the windows as it was not something that they would do, due to cost and risks, however a film could be put on it, however when questioned about a mb warranty on this he really didn't comment.

As I said this unfortunately could have been resolved quite easily by ordering in another car, offering a decent incentive to keep original, however the muppets decided to assume that I was an easy target. Unfortunately for them I have so far kept a level head, been calm, and let them lead. Tables turn tomorrow.

I dont understand why another car needs to be ordered... is the one that has arrived not mechanically sound? Is it in a dangerous, undriveable condition?

A warranty on privacy glass, well either they can or they can't which is it? I dont think they assumed anything, it may well have been an error on their part and yours got mixed up. Not acceptable anyways, but I'm sure you could sort it out in some shape or form.

Debadge the car, is that a difficult DIY job? Ask them not to bother and do it yourself with a hairdryer. Surely this can be done on your driveway.
