Apparently this car being an AMG will have a newer engine capable of doing 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds! instead of 4.5 or 4.2 seconds (with Performance Package)...

i like it! looks more like an oversized c class now. im glad they have got rid of the double headlight arrangement and gone for a single unit. that was the one thing that let the 212 styling down most IMO

Soon they will all look the same, just the size to differentiate between them

I do also prefer the lights over those split lights, but like malcolm said they are all looking abit similar now

The other bit I dont get, and likewise on other models, is the front bonnet line, they should have just hidden it around the grille like they use to rather than a stupid line running accross the front. They could have still had the grille remain put when the bonnet opens, just descuise the line with the top of it

Hmm mixed emotions actually as it does look like a plumped out C class. I wasn't a fan of the W212 model particularly the headlights probably because my w211 has the original seperate oval lights that to me, are unmistakably Mercedes Benz. I prefer the look of the w211 hence why I didnt upgrade.

Perhaps thats also why I look more at the CL500 as the next possible car..

Personally I'd prefer a more distinctive difference between the model series from C to E etc but it seems to be merging.

I guess I'll hang on for the CL :D

That line across the grill is indeed truly tacky.painted plastic trying to look like aluminium. Why not use aluminium? Even the SLS has this same bit of grot on the front, quite unnecessary and more suitable to a '70s datsun.
The rest looks OK, bit traditional, the headlights are miles better.

I still don't like it.

The current 212 never sat well at all in my view, and to these jaded eyes this revamp looks to be only the result of someone trying to polish one of those un-polishable items.

The only thing I will say is with 1 very minor exception, I think MB have always made really nice looking/styled interors. The only one in recent times I didnt like was the centre console of the pre-facelift c-class where the pop-up screen is, the facelift one looked much better.

Or the other way of thinking a baby S class, after all the C is a bigger version of the new A class

The C, E, S will look virtually the same next year. They've done an Audi and I, for one, don't think it's the right thing to do :(

Hmmm... the hockey stick line over the rear arches appears to be gone, though I´m not sure the new line is much of an improvement. Prefer the new headlights, though the grille looks cheap and nasty - and that front spoiler just looks weird from this angle.

I am really starting to have an issue with MB styling at the moment. As others have mentioned above, they are all starting to look the same. This is fine if you are Audi - cause the styling is somewhat restrained, but the current "my big fat gypsy wedding" styling language at MB just looks tacky on most models in my eyes.

And why do they have to change things so often? No designer has that many GOOD ideas.

The time span between updates is now so much shorter than what it was, back in 2000 most models went for some 3 to 4 years or more with one small update body wise.
I think it is just to let you know that you are driving an old model, OK the running lamp rules have forced a small change.

Surely the time scales haven't changed that much?
It was always 4 year facelift, 8 years new model, wasn't it?

The E was released in 2009 and the facelift will be in 2013. We got new gearboxes in 20011 along with DRL, but that was not a real facelift.

I don't think making them similar is too bad. It's back to the late 90's where my C was identical to the S if parked far enough away to disguise the size difference. Al depends on whether you like the style they've picked. I'm still not as fond of the 212 as I am the 211 but it's still consider one when the time comes.

I don't think F10 or XF are worried.
