Hello and welcome

E220d and engine warning light… I‘ll take a stab in the dark of it being a NOX sensor failure instead…:(

What kind of garage did you take it to?

Has it been for a software update recently?

Was this a local garage, how did they come to this conclusion?
I would visit a Mercedes Independent garage.

It might be worth doing a search on here and on t'other side! I saw one recently where the brakes had 'failed' and it turned out to be the vacuum pump. Not sure of the detail but, if I remember correctly, it lives in the sump along with the oil pump, so is an engine out job to fix.

Ernie

ps. Happy to be corrected if the above recollection is wrong!

This is my thread for what sounds like it could be a similar issue.

IF you have suffered brake servo assistance failure as a result of your fault, make sure you report it to VOSA https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-recalls-and-faults/report-a-serious-safety-defect , as they are investigating a number of these issues.

Regardless, if the tandem vacuum/oil pump has failed internal seals (whoever thought this was a good design idea needs shooting) it is a v. expensive repair and i would be demanding MBUK covers the cost, especially if the mileage isnt 100k+

Good luck...Abbie?

Here is the thread I referred to above.

Hi Ernie,

Can just back from a service last Friday, litle yellow engine warning light yesterday ( Tues) , took it back to the garage and the initial assessment is the Vacuum pump is faulty. Car is from Mar 2018, easy life etc... 45k miles.

Garage told me 3 other cars locally with the same issue, problem with parts availability I am warned. Engine has to be removed and re-fitted. 3 days work. Approx 7k quote.

As I am not in warranty, it will be interesting to see the view from MB.

This is becoming another one of those regular failures MB put into the marketplace from time to time. Stand your ground and demand goodwill. 45k miles is unacceptable for 'the best'.
