Hi all,

Picked up a second hand E class estate couple of months back (W213, estate, 220D, Reg: Sep 16) and have noticed that the passenger puddle light isn’t working.

All lights on the door are still working ie bottom of door, ambient lighting, indicator light etc. Drivers side puddle light still works.

Anyone else had any issues with this? Do you think Mercedes might fix out of goodwill? Car is less than 4 months out of warranty...

Hello and welcome

My drivers one failed during warranty and was replaced. It took nearly 2 months to get hold of it (W213 was still pretty new). If you’ve had the car for awhile you can always ask them, you’ve nothing to lose.

Thanks! Just wondering what Mercedes are like for goodwill as I’ve been with BMW all this time :) will give it a go. If not, there is this video which shows you how to replace it

Camera work isn’t the best ... but you get the jist

Found this other video which seems e-class specific. This guy actually pops the mirror out for some clips behind. If you are happy doing it - then could be a good job ...

Figures! How were BMW in your experience on goodwill by the way?

Hey John! Yes BMW were actually pretty good. I had a 1 series and they fixed a couple of items outside of warranty (It did have a full BMW dealer service history - they checked this very thoroughly). My brother had a 62 BMW x3 20d. Had about 85k miles on it two years ago and the turbo started to go. BMW easily offered to pay 80% of it as goodwill. Again the x3 had full dealer history.

Seems like it is dealer specific ... you can tell if they're even interested in talking about goodwill.

I've found face to face gets better results, especially if you have a history with the dealer

Have just been out to inspect in day light ... you can see that the passenger side light is full of moisture whereas the drivers side one is clean. Going to email this over to Mercedes customer service and see what they say

New update: Went through Mercedes central contact which asked local dealer to call me (same one which wasn’t interested). Different service employee and she said that they’d have to get the car in and then make a claim to Mercedes for Out of warranty. If Mercedes however, reject - then I have to cough up for diagnostics etc. Asked how much part is - they quoted £18.20. Picking it up tomorrow and will fit myself. Guy in the parts department wouldn’t give me the part number over the phone but if I buy it ... the box will have the part number on it?

Update: picked up part earlier today and attempted to replace. When taking the back cover off - it was very clear that there isn’t enough room to remove the light unit from the bottom of the mirror The S class video posted earlier showed some room however, this e class mirror is so compact (probably due to aerodynamic improvements over the years!)

So it looks like the whole mirror needs to come off to then disassemble. Going to take it into a Indie and see if they can do it.

Will update with how much it costs when fixed (sorry I didn’t get any photos!)

Update: Phoned local Mercedes dealer who have quoted £83 for labour to fit (incl. VAT). Going to get it booked in next week. Will update then.

If this is the final cost - that will be around £21 for part and £83 for labour i.e. est. £100 to replace (incl. VAT).
