A180 AMG
Hi all,

This is my first post here - so I apologise if it’s in the wrong place.

I recently (July) bought an A180 AMG and I absolutely adore it. The only problem is that I’ve noticed I’m getting really poor MPG.

I spent 4 hours driving on the motorway(comfort mode, cruise control on at a steady 70mph) on Friday and this is the MPG I’m getting:

0AE2AE00-B0C2-41B0-B7A7-E8B305BAE798.jpeg

This is the best I’ve been able to get since I got the car. I’ve tried having it in Eco mode but that seemed to make it worse!

Is this a common thing that I should expect or should I take it back to the dealer?

Hello and welcome.

That MPG is about what you can expect from that Model. Even at best in a "Controlled" Environment only 39MPG is advertised. And that is usually tested at a steady 55MPH. Not 70MPH.

It's a small 2lt 4 cylinder engine pushing out around 400Hp. What were you realistically expecting? There will always be a trade-off. All that power doesn't come for free I'm afraid..... ;)

Hello and welcome,

I've moved it for you ;) I'm presuming it's a petrol and by the average speed you're not sitting on the motorway much :( this will drive the fuel economy down significantly

Welcome!

I’d be happy with that - average with my BMW 435i (300 bhp) is <30mpg so you are doing well

OP has confused you by adding AMG, it is AMG line and has the 1.3L engine in it, not the 2.0L 400+ A45. I would have thought well into the 40’s would be the norm Parker’s have it as 47mpg.

Sorry, I didn't realise that. Maybe people should indicate exactly what Car they have..... So I would agree, that MPG is pispoor!

It’s a 1.6, not a 1.3. But this is why I was querying the MPG as I thought it was super ****.

I did say that I have an A180. Not sure how I can indicate much clearer than that…

Have you had the car serviced. Air filters and fuel filters m all good, tyres at right pressure. Thats where I would start.
Have you looked at the tech specs of what the MPG should be?

tbf doesnt look too bad!

The car was MOT’d and serviced the day I picked it up, so end of July.

I’ve looked the specs up and most places are reporting high 40’s, whereas mine spends most of it’s time in the high 20’s

It's the 25mph average that's dragging down the fuel economy
