You know what else I bought, after getting my new wheel?
These:

Used a couple by now - a visit to a bodyshop a few months ago, and a recent starter replacement at a well-known garage.
I thought it might be awkward to have the cover on, but both of them actually liked it - I guess it's one less thing for them to worry about keeping clean for a customer.

Hi Sasha,
Re-trim looks sweet :).
Though I am surprised you didn't consider fitting flappy paddles to the steering wheel.

I have thought about getting a cover for the wheel as I myself am guilty of getting in and just touching the wheel with filthy hands!!

The car has the shift buttons already and part of me wants to make them into paddles but part of me can't be bothered as I never use them, if I want manual shift I just knock the gear-lever from side to side. If I were to do a paddle conversion I'd be tempted to 3D print new ones. I have access to a 3D printer so I'd take the measurements from the original button so the new paddle would still fit in the existing clip and then make the paddle as big as I'd want. That way there's no cutting, no snipping circuit boards down to fit and no massive expense on genuine MB paddles I might break.

We'll see though, for now they can stay with just buttons and be used probably once in a blue moon :)

Oh no!
The wheel is there for you to enjoy, the covers are only to protect it from someone else ;)

That reminds me of when my brother bought a Discovery with lovely cream leather seats. I only saw them once as he showed me around his new car, every time after that it had fitted covers to protect them, the covers were a nice cream polyester or something like that, looked better than other covers I've seen but nowhere close to being as nice as the leather seats.
I guess it was too much faff to take them off when he was out of his work clothes.
No doubt it kept them nice for the next owner, whats the effing point of that eh.
Oh, and I think Sasha meant when she's working on the car :)

D'oh! Of course she did. Having never done anything mechanical on my cars myself, I missed the point here, eh?

That is what I meant yeah, I'm forever hopping in and out to do things with dirty hands so it would be good to have a cover when doing dirty jobs :)

Not to me, well done to Simon at Hide'N'Seat, I'd wholeheartedly recommend his services. I'm having him do my Volvo as well :)

Well, you had a vision to do it, picked the trims and stitching colour, and put it together :)

You just need to buy a COMAND head unit to finish off that interior now!

I suppose, he did the important bit, putting it all together for me :D

I am tempted by a period COMAND head unit now I've had the wheel done and taken it away from factory spec but firstly I'd lose my sunglasses slot which is a bigger deal to me than it probably should be and secondly it would be quite a lot of money and faff to get a head unit and wire it all in. It's the option I'm looking at most seriously should I change the HU. There are 2 things that bother me about the car, neither of which I thought would be a concern as it was always planned as a low use car but it's done nearly 1500 miles since purchase, and they are lack of cupholders in the front and lack of music streaming capability. I knew about both issues but carried on regardless as I assumed I'd listen to the big V8 and I wouldn't be consuming berverages in the car but it'd be nice to have somewhere to rest a cup and it would be nice not to have recycle the same 7 CD's or listen to crap radio stations. For now my solution (my only solution!) is to use a hard wired FM modulator with my old iPod to sort the stereo out, which I may soon do, and use my darling wife as a cup holder. I've found a US spec centre console and armrest in black on eBay but it's still in America and I gather it'll probably be mighty expensive to ship it over. I have asked though, but I guess it'll have to wait, will probably be easier to go on holiday there next year and bring one back in hold luggage haha. The guy wants $320 for the whole thing which is mega money but it does solve my problem...

What about replacing the roof grab handle, with a sunglasses holder - I have done on my car, and it's very convenient.
I can look up the part number, but there's probably a different one for the CLK.

If you have an AUX input (3.5mm jack), you can fit in a bluetooth adapter, and it will support streaming from you phone.
Again, I had it in my car, with the original Audio 20 (now replaced by a new 9" HU).

I could put my sunglasses in a holder but I like to keep them in the case so I can take them from car to car. They
are Ray Ban frames with prescription lenses in so I need them for driving and wouldn't like to forget them in a holder in the car. The bold natural leather case helps me to remember them!!

Aux input is not possible on an Audio 10. The only way to do it is to dismantle the unit and solder onto the sound chip which is too risky for me to think about. I don't want a Bluetooth audio connection as my phone is connected to the Viseeo and couldn't be paired with that and a separate audio source simultaneously. An aux for my old iPod or full iPhone control as in my Volvo are the best bets. It's the only time the iPhone 7's lack of an audio jack is a potential grievance for me. It gives my 80GB iPod some use though so it's better in the end as I mostly steam music from Amazon Music in the Volvo as I don't keep downloaded music on my phone :)

Ha-ha, yes, way too easy to forget the glasses in the top holder. I keep my driving glasses (varifocals with all the fancy options ticked) in the car, so only use the top holder for the actual sunglasses...

It sounds like you have done a thorough research on the HU options, and might be due an upgrade ;)
