a class 2020.
car: a class 2020 (ish)

1. Are newer mercedes automatic gearboxes reliable/smooth - im coming from a mazda 2017 manual.
2. is an a35 amg less or more reliable than a amg line 2.0 petrol (about the same price) -- but im thinking, is an engine that has presumably a bigger turbo and puts out more power under more stress and therefore likely to give in sooner? i don't mind sacrificing the mpg but i want the car to last at least like 80-90k miles.
3. thoughts on the 250e? most of my commutes would be on the shorter side

thank you

Kyle

Hi Kyle and welcome to the forum. I personally don’t have any experience with an ‘A’ Class but my daughter has one, I haven’t had any adverse feedback from her so I can only assume there are no issues to be mindful of. I do however have experience of MB automatic gearboxes and they are amongst the best out there, they are seamless. Do not however go for a manual box, they are an entirely different animal and not popular at all.

I would take an A35 over an 2.0 normal one for the same price every day

Steer well clear of hybrids

Welcome - the A35 will be far more fun but it is still a fairly modest engine compared with the 2 litre unit in the A45 and A45S so it shouldn’t be problem. As has been said, avoid the hybrid. Faults will cost a fortune to correct and you will always be disappointed by the actual range and fuel consumption figures.
