Funny you should say about the CL, or fixed tops. I (we) use the roof down less than I thought (for all the wrong reasons - needing to speak on the phone, appalling speakers, teenage daughter not wanting to be seen with her seriously uncool dad thinking he is cool, etc., etc.). There are occasions where roof down gives an immense holiday feeling of freedom (such as last night), but ultimately I suspect a fixed roof car with sunroof suits me better.

Indeed you do not have to have the roof sown, just because it will go down, it can be far too hot, or too cold. I have a mobile phone but never use it :D

A nice drive in the evening can be very nice.

At least with a CL you get a large opening with the windows down

And a large hole in the wallet with your pants down...

You can drive the CL's with all the windows down, and the roof open, that can be nice sometimes.

We put the roof down on the SL at almost every opportunity.
As Malcolm says though excess outside air temp is a good reason not to. We found it unbearably hot at times with the roof down last time we were on the continent.

As said - last night was lovely to drive around with the roof down looking at the stars.

That's only if you're really tall and have a sunroof ;)
