When I start up my car the speakers make a deep toned beeping noise, the kind you would hear with a bluetooth connection. While the Audio 20 does have the phone buttons on it the car did not come with the bluetooth phone adaptor that is normally in the arm rest. Any ideas what the tone maybe?
I have already had some recommendations for replacement head units and that would solve the phone connectivity issue.

On my Audio 20 system the connectors in the armrest are for the Aux connections not BT, which is managed by the Audio 20 settings menu's, can't help you with the beeping noises, pairing your phone to Audio 20 should provide integration of SMS notifications, hands free Telephony and Music, although I would imagine some models would differ, what does your Audio 20 Handbook state?

You are quite right. The handbook should be the first point of call. Unfortunately for me it has nothing that would give me a clue. There is nothing in the armrest except for two lights. No connection point in there and no Aux point in the glove compartment too. I'm not sure what came as standard with the W211 Elegance models.

Try decoding your VIN here, https://www.mbdecoder.com/ it should be itemised on the associated datasheet.
Thanks. I have the data and it's not listed. Not a problem once I have a few other bits sorted out I will have a look at the head units that are available. Having said that I am tempted to just keep it as it is.
