Hi there, first poster here to pardon me if I'm posting in the wrong place.

It's giving my head in because I don't know what this is. Whenever i start the car after leaving for 2-3 days, there's this rumbling sound at idle, and when put into Drive/Reverse, it will produce a thumping sound at about 1 every 0.5 seconds. However once the car's all warmed up, the sound disappears. There isn't any hesitation in engaging into gears too.

Attached is a video recording of said rumbling. Feel free to ask me more Qs and i'll be sure to explain further.

It's a 2003 CLK200 1.8L Petrol Automatic. No warning lights or alerts show, and while i've bought it 2nd hand (a year ago), I've been keeping up with the service. The mechanic also passed me a sheet of repairs to be done soon so maybe these could be the cause? I've attached this here too.

Looking forward to your replies! Have a good one

I'd get the exhaust issues sorted, then look at engine and gearbox mounts, especially if the noise is louder when in drive than in neutral or park.

It's quite common for noises caused by loose items associated with an exhaust to disappear when its hot.
Exhaust shields are easy and cheap to fix back in place using large washers and a dollop of instant gasket.
Welding up the hanger will prevent the exhaust from moving and possibly knocking against body work.
Centre silencer poorly fitted? New to me. All my previous MB exhausts have been one piece from the catalysts backwards, but it could be knocking on underside of the car.

Aside from the noise, get your tyres sorted. Never mix sizes on the same axle unless its a short term thing e.g. spare fitted due to a puncture.

Thank you very much for your reply!

This is something i really didn't think of, and yet it makes so much sense! I'll get that sorted out then and report back.

Yep got that sorted now with fresh tyres a month ago so that's good. Sadly the sound persisted hence why I came here.

Again, thanks for your reply, and I'll update you in the thread how it goes.
