car's for good...

I honestly though driving a big lazy auto would have calmed me right down but it hasn't realy. I still get annoyed at the blind, arrogant, pushy idiot's out there, and I'm affraid to say but now I can be just as bad as "them", and I'm not proud nor do I want this happening.

I do enjoy driving but not on the roads that I drive on, it's really peak hour stuff that get's me, I know probably some of you lot will/would say dont let bother you and yes I try not to let them, but "they" do get to me, not all the time but now often enough.

If anyone can can give me word's of wisdom so help me through this please do, so I can keep driving without bothering about "them", otherwise I dont know what I'll do without a car, as Iv'e had one for about 8 years now.

How about a bit of cbt, which is cognitive behaviour therapy, which would teach you how to replace those negative angry thoughts with some good positive ones. Or maybe you just need to learn some relaxation techniques, anything that enables you to chill out and go to a 'happy' place in your thoughts when you are stressed :)

counselling.....find a good one. it may be that your anger is coming out during driving but it may not be the route of the problem!

then again. go by bus..you will be back in a merc within a week.

Download my music and chill out It's only £3.50 for 48 mins of music (you'll have to burn a CD for the car)

www.shopsonic.com/futuremusiccorp :)

Seriously though it sounds like you need to swich off the news/traffic reports/drum and bass and get caught up in something more relaxed and les frantic.

Mike.

Or go to Sharezaa and download your music for free

Good day at the office then Stulc? Only kidding. There are some morons out there I agree. As for CBT, when I took my motorcycle test that stood for compulsary basic training, which some of these drivers dont appear to have.
"happy place in your thoughts" Have you been whaching too much Happy Gilmour littlebrooklyn?
Have a nice day

Littlebrooklyn.......

Iv'e never heard of cbt (apart from the bike test thing) but I will look into it, thanks.

Slinky.....

I had counscelling a while ago but to be honest I didnt get anything out it....I'd have been well going to the pub and talking to s stranger. But I do have family issue's too, I cant seem to "talk" anymore I just answer angrily with and nearly everything...again something I'm not proud of.

Mike.....

Thanks, I download it, anything's worth a try because as stated above I dont like/want to be like this because my health is allready suffering as well as loosing family and freind's.

Cognitive behaviour therapy combines two very effective kinds of psychotherapy — cognitive therapy and behavior therapy.

Behaviour therapy helps you weaken the connections between troublesome situations and your habitual reactions to them. Reactions such as fear, depression or rage, and self-defeating or self-damaging behavior. It also teaches you how to calm your mind and body, so you can feel better, think more clearly, and make better decisions.

Cognitive therapy teaches you how certain thinking patterns are causing your symptoms — by giving you a distorted picture of what's going on in your life, and making you feel anxious, depressed or angry for no good reason, or provoking you into ill-chosen actions.

When combined into CBT, behaviour therapy and cognitive therapy provide you with very powerful tools for stopping your symptoms and getting your life on a more satisfying track.

Another therapy that I hear is quite good is EFT which stands for Emotional Freedom Technique :)

Stulc if you go along to your GP you can get CBT on the NHS. It doesn't involve seeing a Pyschiatrist, so no need to worry about seeing one of them. They use Psychologists for CBT and they are all very normal kind of people :)

When I get wound up, I force myself to drop back, turn off the stereo, push back into that comfy Merc seat and imagine what its like for all those muppets in their crappy plastic boxes. Then look at all the chrome, walnut and leather and think, it doesn't really matter, I've already won.

Its rather like when you discover that dropping from 100+ to 75 often extends a 100 mile journey by less than a minute, uses less fuel and is less stressful. You start to wonder what you were bothering for.

We are all competetive (else we'd be driving fiestas) but sometimes you win by coming second!

Yes, some famous person once said that "hell is other people" and it often feels that way.

Driving in central london can drive me nuts as a lot of people seem to be very selfish in their road usage. I recommend (1) setting off early (sounds banal but reduces internal pressure), (2) Radio 4 (I get quite absorbed in some of the debates, news, comedy, etc) and (3) watching the highlights of the last Saturday's Scotland England rugby when I get home*

*(3) may not work for everyone on this forum

My partner leaves home at 7.30am every morning just to avoid the bad traffic that builds up around where we live. He is fortunate that he only works 10mins away so even if he does hit some traffic he is never stuck for too long.

I have to say I really hate traffic queues, I always take a newspaper in the car in case we get stuck in traffic and I have one of those stress balls too which I find helps.

I used to be a company car driver and always pushing myself and my stress levels through the ceiling. When I was pulled over for doing 96 I decided that I had better make a few changes. I now have my Merc, I let anyone past who wants to go. I use cruise control whenever I can to keep the speed down and I feel much better. I know I could go past the lot of them but don't have to prove anything anymore. That is a big part of the Benz thing. You are there now, they are still trying to prove it by cutting you up and trying to get by. Let them go.

Yea I know what you mean....especially jberks 7 Blobcat........I do sometime's look at inside the car when something's happeneing outside....I look at the chrome MB badge on the s/wheel, also at the carbon fibre dash & consule, at the chrome MB sport badge on top of the auto lever...ect.

Yes I does bring a "quiet" smile to my face thinking I'm a MB rather than the "run of the mil" crap out there, and especially when I keek at the end of the bonnet and see the chrome star....:).

But Littlebrooklyn has suggested.....I will look for those book's and also see my doc, and thanks to everyone who so far has said something on here I really am listening to you all, and will take on board you comment's/suggestion's, thanks...:)

Btw..Littlebrooklyn....if you partner only work's 10 min's away would it not be easier on him to walk to work, or is it maybe like dual carriage way or something the reason he doesn't.
