I obtained a 2 year or 24,000 mile free service contract when I bought my approved used S350, it was serviced with Mobil 1 under this plan 9,500 miles after purchase when they set the service indicator to count down from 10,000 miles.

This means I will definately get another free service before the 24,000 miles are up, I would have had no chance of this if they had set assyst to count down correctly from 13,000 miles as most of my trips are on motorways.:twisted::D

small things make me smile, this was one. :) i am smiling.

First post guys so I should prob start a new thread but, a 2 month old E250 cdi, breaks down on Saturday, with 2000 miles on clock, a little orange engine sign comes on.
I ring Mobilo and the technician says, " Oh another one!"

Now for the science bit...
They have changed the fuel injector from Bosch to Delphi in the 250 cdi and this component is failing.

Does anyone know anything about this and will there be a recall?
Has it happened to anyone else?

Thanks for that.
When returned "fixed" are other injectors likely to fail in turn? Or can I relax then?
And is it true that MB engineers were worried that this probably would happen?

Great.
So the garage will replace like with like until instructed otherwise, and these can go too.
As you can see I am not technical minded.

I am just trying to understand how this major failure could occur and how it may be prevented.

Thanks.
They gave me an A6 3.0 tdi replacement, so at least I can see why I bought the Merc.
It's a bit average by comparison. Even if it hasn't broken down!

What does it say in the service book?

Others will know better than me but I think AMG models have to be serviced every year, which with the mileage yours is doing is probably a good idea.

I have just been ''dipping into'' this thread which I think is fascinating. Cannot read them all because I have come in far too late. The opener was very informative. My 2003 SL 500 has been serviced in accordance with the ASSYST

A service 06.05.05................13657miles
B service 15.09.06................26425miles...............12768miles interval
A service 08.07.08................39041miles...............12616miles interval

The next service is stated to be due at about 53750miles...13709 interval... probably late January 2010. At one stage it was indicating 900miles to the up coming B service but after putting some (synthetic) oil in it (the car requested it), about 1.5 litres the indicator jumped by about 1000miles which is about six weeks motoring for me and cheap for the price of a drop of oil !!!!
My car obviously does not demand an annual service, maybe it would at two years?, but what is it that has prompted MB to believe that an annual service is now necessary? What has changed? My service intervals have been averaging almost 19mths.

They need the money due to falling of the servicing that is being done more and more by indies.

It all makes nonsense of the research done by oil companies to through away good oil at under 10k in some cases. yes taking a liter out and add a new liter you can get a few more K out of it.

Are you just a cynic or do you know what you say to be a fact?
I suspect that you are correct but it must be verging upon the criminal for a substantial multi-national to bolster it's profits by calously taking advantage of it's customers in the way you suggest. However if there is good reason for the change in servicing requirement then why have I and hunreds of thousands like me, and you, not been sent a reasoned explanation and instruction to have our cars serviced at least annually for fear that our cars may turn into pumpkins or something equally terrible?
Both servicing regimes cannot be the optimum cost effective engineering solution.

Sadly Mic, we have explored this up hill and down dale and we can find no persuasive clever reason. Malcolm's explanation is sad but true.

... what is it that has prompted MB to believe that an annual service is now necessary? What has changed? My service intervals have been averaging almost 19mths.

Mercedes said that variable servicing was causing too many issues with fleet buyers being uncertain what service costs would be over certain mileage points. A car doing 60K over 3 years could need anything from 3-6 services. Yet Audi and BMW seem to be able to cope OK with that.

I think the issue with MB is that the intervals varied a lot and also the cars generally demanded a more expensive B service as the mileage stretched out. The dealers were also able to scam people by not resetting ASSYST properly so customers didn't get extended servicing.
