hi I bought a a190 the other day, everything is great.

Although I thought I'd try my old stereo from my ML in the a class. As it was not working before but been in loft for a year. So I thought I'd take a look

The a class has an after market Sony CD player, which was working fine. But it still has the 4 disc CD player in, but not connected.

After I tried putting my ML stereo in, neither would work, I knew my ml one probably wouldn't so was going to take it apart and see. But now the Sony won't work either, I've changed the fuse, in the stereos and in the fuse box.

But the cable is reading 0.02 on my multimeter, so does this mean that there is a problem between the fuse box and the cable?

Amy help would be great.

I'm not very good with multimeters although I've visited probably 9/10 stereos and never had a problem installing one before.

Thanks all. Matt

I would say that the fuse has blown in the fuse box.

Yes I've have tried the fuse, which I think it is, although there is nothing in the manual,

Seen a list online it's fuse number 12. So that's what I've changed, not sure if it definetly the correct one.

Cheers.

It is f12 for the radio and cigar lighter.

What do you mean by f12, I can't see any letters just numbers.

Thanks for your replies.

Yeah I tried this with a spare fuse what was in the car, and swapped another 30amp fuse with the radio one and still nothing.

Im sure the reading on the multimeter was 12.something, (now it's 0.02) when I tested in when I took the stereo out and trying to see what was wrong with the ML stereo,

Re: 4 disc CD player - are you sure it's not just CD storage trays under the head unit? A190 would either had a 6-CD changer in the boot (under N/S storage compartment) or a single CD player, as far as I am aware. Mind you my last A190, a good few years ago, was a Japanese spec, so I might be wrong.

Also, check fuses 22 (sound system) and 32 (CD changer and radio)

I have changed fuse 12 but the light in glove box was still working with the old fuse, and still no radio, it's an after market Sony but they have left in the old cd changer under the head unit, although this isn't wired up.

I have also change the fuse on the stereo and fuse 12 this morning with brand new fuses and still nothing

Maybe the cable is loose between the fuse and stereo connector?

Is so how would I check thi using a multimeter?thanks

All radio's require 2 live leads, the back up memory needs a low current feed and the radio itself needs a 12 volt feed, this one can be switchable.

Thanks for the reply, but that doesn't mean a lot to me, how would I check that there is a current coming through?

Does the car still have the original plugs on the radio harness

Yes everything is standard, except for the head unit and an extra Wire harness, Which attaches to the head unit and to the cars original radio harness via the black block connector, if that makes sense.

This is where it gets hard, if the cigar lighter is working, this means the fuse 12 is good and all OK, and if no 12 volt measured with your volt meter some thing wrong with the live wire feed.

When doing a voltage check, it is important to find a good ground point to connect the meter to.

Is it possible to run a new live cable from battery to the harness?

I've had another look and it's the yellow wire (on the harness) (pink and blue from the car) that is not sending any current, the other cable is fine.

Is there an easy way around this, without having to get into the back of the dash. I was reading that I could run a cable to the cigarette lighter?

Thanks.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to remember that there are two wires on the original MB connector that need to be swapped round when using an aftermarket stereo. So if putting back an original MB unit you need to swap them back. Will try and find out more..
