Hey everyone, hope you are all well. I’ve recently bought a c63 w204 2011 (61 plate). The issue it has is that it’s making a loud whining noise which increases when your revs do. It’s really annoying and I have already tried getting it sorted by replacing the power steering reservoir. My steering isn’t as heavy now but the noise is still there. I was told by the mechanic it would clear up in about 20/30 miles but this doesn’t make sense as the noise is the exact same as it was before.

Here is a video clip:

I hope you guys can point me in the right direction.

Wheel bearing noise?
Try to pinpoint the noise, front, back, right or left.
Power steering noise is normally when turning the steering, and not affected by engine revs.

Yeah I’m at a bit of a loss, don’t have a clue what it is and I don’t even want to drive the car that’s how annoying the noise is.

If you haven't already, I would take off the serpentine belt and check each accessory by turning the pulley. Having said that, to me that noise sounds like the alternator bearings. Typically it could decrease as the battery becomes charged and the load on the bearings reduces.

Let us know how you get on.

I think I also just had that belt or fan belt replaced one of the 2 can’t remember what it’s called exactly. I’ll have a listen on where the sound is coming from exactly.

I’ve had a look and from what I can hear it’s loudest near the oil cap.

One more idea. The noise could be from the Supercharger.

Unless someone's fitted a Weistec to it then I'd be surprised to say the least on an M156.
It’s deffo not that, cars completely stock lol. I’ve been told by a garage it’s a pulley, sounds about right but not sure which one.

A process of elimination now I suppose.

You could start by removing belts if you feel comfortable doing this, if not then a local independent, ideally someone who knows these cars and not just a guy who had a couple of Mercedes a few years ago.

If you post up your approximate location then I'm sure that someone will help with a recommendation.

Just as a "finally", did you buy it privately or through a dealer? If the latter then it may be prudent to let them have a look.

Quite similar to mine but mine is there all the time. Next time I get a chance I’ll open the bonnet and get a video from the engine bay.

Private seller heard the noise when I bought it thinking it was the reservoir as that’s a common issue.
