SLK 2004 230 Kompressor (Designo interior)
Hello everyone,

I’m looking for a little help / guidance please relating to a full set of new tyres for my SLK230 (R170, 2004).
I’m currently running on ContiSport Contacts:
Front: 205/55-16R 91W; and
Rear: 225/50-16ZR 92W.

I’m not a fan of mixing brands of tyres.
The car is really for weekend fun and might only do 3,000 miles a year. It never goes near a track and isn’t driven ‘hard’. In winter it spends weeks at a time garaged and we minimise the risk of encountering snow just because…well, it’s a rear-wheel drive, front engine SLK. And the ContiSports are (I think) rubbish in the snow!

It would be good to have a decent set of tyres for weekend driving and complementing the car for our usage style but that won’t mind standing on concrete in the garage for weeks on end. I’ve wondered about trying the Goodyear Efficient Grips? I’d be very grateful for any advice / input on what tyres to choose please.

Thanks all.
Martyn

Thought about Michelin cross climates ? If they do them in your sizes of course, worth checking ...use all year round and excellent tyres

Thanks John. No, I hadn't really put them into the mix. I'll check them out.
Cheers.

No problem Martyn, I would have put them on the SL happily but they don't do my size yet So I had to settle for Dunlop winter sport 3 D full winters

Thanks John; Don't think they do my size either yet. There are some interesting and good options coming up here.

Thanks Jonathan (JBELL), that's really helpful and great links too. Much appreciated.
I've also been using www.blackcircles.com, which is also a useful link.

Best to look on all sites as some get special offers on certain sizes, Openno is another site.

No worries, I recently had to buy a pair of rears for my car (stuck with the Uniroyal RS3 as they are amazing) and looked on every site, Camskill were still cheaper if only by a couple of pounds and by £80 per tyre from one site!!!!

Thanks everyone for their help.

Here's an update on my choice: Goodyear Efficient Grips. I'll let you know what I think!

I checked out a few online and traditional suppliers. Online included:
Blackcircles: went with these for the 'fitted' deal;
Openeo;
Camskill;
Mytyres;
cartyres.com.

Hope this helps anyone researching and looking. Just need a lovely Autumn day now...!

I've had Goodyear Efficient Grips on my C Class for the last year. They're really good in all conditions, especially the wet. I've done about 10k on them and I'd recommend them. There's still plenty of life left in them. They're quiet and very forgiving.
