Can anybody answer my question. I have a 2003 V220 that has just had a major service. The garage told me that the pistons may have gone as there is black smoke coming from the manifold when I put the heater on. Car is running perfectly otherwise. Anybody know if this is correct or could be something else. Cheers.

Well that makes sense!!!

The bit about putting the heaters on!!

If the engine is leaking or burning oil. wont matter what setting the heaters are on!!

Welcome to the forums!

as above. heater cant affect it! im assuming we are talking about the inlet manifold smoking, and not just the ehaust manifold?

could it be that when the blower is on it sucks in fumes from the engine, possibly blowing injector fumes?

i find it hard to make much sense of this post, i mean, is it using lots of oil and smoking from the exhaust? is this garage competent? or out for a fast buck!

Smoking manifold v220

My husband has just drove it around the block and there is no smell now coming through the heater system, very strange. However, there is still black smoke coming off engine near the air filter. The garage said they would need to strip it down and possibly one or more of the pistons has gone. Car is not burning oil at all.

As Alexander above,, do not take it to a dealer ,we can recommend a good indie..
