Very little heat in footwells.

Model C200 - Year 2000

About two months ago in the very cold weather the following started to happen.

When starting the car I can hear a clicking noise and as if something is trying to move, it lasts for about 30 seconds and then stops. The air con and heating work fine but very little heat is outputted to the footwells. When selecting the footwell only on the control it sounds as if it's blocked!

I spoke to my local garage about it and they said that Mercedes cars are well known for this failure and that it could cost a lot of money to fix!

Any help or advice would be appreciated, in the meantime I've purchased some thicker socks until the weather warms up;)

The charcoal flap gearing has seized and it has broken a tooth on a gearwheel. The whole dash has to be removed and the blower box replaced. About 11 hours labour plus parts.

I did one a couple of weeks ago and is my 4th one I have done in total.

Thanks for the feedback but I think I will put up with it for now as I can buy a lot of warm socks for 11 hours work ;-)

I wonder if the flap is broken, why not pull it open and drive with bare feet in the summer:rolleyes:

I took my car (2001 C320) in to a main dealer for something else (posted earlier) and they pointed out that my heater flaps weren't working properly. Exactly the same as yours but mine do seem to work once the car has got to temperature. They could fix it for me for £1,960.00. Hmmm let me think about that for a while.................

They might as well said £4k while they were at it
