Might help someone out, I had a problem today with an SLK roof. Customer found roof sticking at the front while trying to open, but a thump over the manual release cover above the rear view mirror would get it moving. Accessed the mechanism by removing three screws each side holding headliner side trims and three screws in the front shut area that hold the headliner. Both front latches were working correctly, but there is a cable attached to each latch that operates a further latch at the side, above the tiny rear 1/4 window. These cables have an adjuster each at the front section, and a small adjustment of each was all that was necessary to rectify the fault. If demand exists I could take some pictures...

Mine does this also, give it a thump at the driver's side catch and it opens, didn't know there were cables or adjustment for this Pics would be good

Think I might just have experienced this problem myself.

Operated the control, and the side and rear windows dropped as usual, started to raise the boot lid to accept the roof and then stopped abruptly with the lid raised about 15°.

After the sequence timed out, the close operation worked normally to lower the lid and raise the windows again.

I was suspecting a dodgy microswitch somewhere stopping the sequence, but I guess the roof failing to unlatch would have the same effect.

Does this sound like the fault you saw, or if not, any ideas where to check?

Operated the roof when I got home and it behaved impeccably, so so far it's an intermittent problem - but I doubt that it's going to go away on its own. :neutral:

Hi Malcolm, first off thanks for the reply.

My roof requires a "thump" just behind the rear view mirror. From reading the other posts this on this thread it sounds like one of the latches or microswitches is sticking, or possibly the cable from the front latch to just above the 3/4 windows requires adjustment.

It sounds like you have some pics or a service guide that might save me some time, would you mind sending them my way? (I doubt I'll get around to looking at the roof until the spring now though!)

SLK roof problem

Similar thing, however, roof completed operation but quarter light on passenger side would not raise, sounds like a grating sound - possibly wondering if cable snapped? Hi can you help, have 230 slK roof not working at all, pull roof button/switch back and nothing happens, no noise at all, no window movement etc. If i push roof switch forward there is a noise from the motor for a few seconds. I have gone to release the front by pulling plug out by rear view mirror but the bolt seems to be fully stuck too. Any ideas. The shelf in the boot is in place. the fluid seems a little low in the boot though. chris.bunyan@btinternet.com
