Explain a little more. When you place the key in the ignition and turn it...what happens?

It happens to me the odd time that nothing happens at all. I take the key out and try again...all works as it should.

So the key turns and all dash lamps come on, then when you turn to start nothing happens.

You can get it out of P by pushing a pen down the little flap at the end of the gear change just below "D".

It sounds like brake light switch is needed.

I do not think that the switch stops the car from starting and the switch has been replaced. The gear selector could be at fault, No gears before and now does not know when in park

Do these late cars have an indication in the cluster of the gear that is use, this is normally the clue

This will I think be a fault in the touch shift. Data code 116 stored in ECU this is the box ECU, only replace it when this code shows up.

We had a couple doing the same thing not that long ago

Thanks for your helpful thoughts . I have changed the brake light switch and still did not start. Forgot to say the bas. Esp and abs lights came on as well as the car staying in one gear. Tried to start car again tonight but still no joy and still stuck in park even after pressing brake pedal hard. Took advice and put pen in slot and did free lever but car still immobile

The codes will have to be read.
