Hi, all
I recently changed the front brake pads on my 55 plate CLS 500, I watched a video on YouTube and thought easier than when I replaced the front airmatic suspension, so got to it.
I disconnected the SBC, so wouldn't suddenly engage and trap my fingers.
It went well brake pads came out and went back in fine.
I started her up to take for a test drive and, ohhh!!! the Abs and Esp warning came on and the steering was stiff.
Is it just a case that it needs to be reset again ?
Ps I don't want to be a mechanic anymore!!

Hi,

Have you plugged the SBC back in correctly ?

You could then try turning the steering wheel lock to lock a few times. After that I’m leaving answers to the experts.

Is there a wheel sensor cable that goes into the back of the hub , maybe this has been displaced ?

Bit drastic to say you have killed the car.

Get the codes read, clear the codes. If it comes back then you have identified the culprit.

Hi, I had it rigged up to a fault diagnosis and managed to clear all codes but as soon as I unplugged and started engine It was back to square one. I have a mobile mechanic taking a look next week with a Star diagnostic so hoping he can sort ☹️

My guess is with the other guys - wheel sensor. Did you take the brake reservoir cap off when you did it? How hard were the pads to spread and get out?

Hi, no I didn't and they were pretty tough to spread and remove.

Thanks for reply

Sometime the sbc trips s fault after a pad change when pushing the pistons out.

I normally extract some from the reservoir before changing them if it’s quite high but always take off the lid. It could be why it was quite hard to push them back as it is a sealed system. I don’t know if you could do damage to the system if this isn’t done. No expert lol

Not sealed as such, small pin hole breather to allow fluid to drop.

Is it like an NRV though? Could you do some damage by forcing brakes back in when sealed shut?
