Booked the SL500 in for the first B service in my ownership. Looking through the service book and it seems that some things have never been done/changed - like the spark plugs, or not done at the scheduled time - like the brake fluid.
This might be expensive!
Wish me luck!
Might be expensive ???:shock::shock::shock: (Good luck though:D)

170 out for the commute to work , all 3 minutes of it :D via the petrol station as I had forgotten id run it low when using it last  , the traction control seems a bit over enthusiastic to me , anyone else find that in their 170 ??
Used the 230 yesterday. Virtually impossible not to get the idiot light flashing....

in just about every car ive ever owned I could feel the car break traction , in a 170 the TC lights more like a sodding disco strobe , only very rarely actually feel any slip

Just given mine a quick clean up, mainly just getting the dust and rain marks off it as it's been parked up for a bit and I'm supposed to be going out for a bit of a breakfast meet in the morning.

It's now started lashing down, so back to square one. :(

i am not quite comitted to that yet. but despite the earlier failure i still have my eye on a marlin/javalin/ng tf or similar, i am starting to feel that they might be more fun, easier and more ecconomic to fix and run. at least you could tow it home, and the possibility of the front wheels eating the arches or brakes deciding to to become dead are almost non existant i feel with the more modern stuff like the SL we are always on catch up and wriggle trying to keep them up together in a sensible and dare i say it ? economic manner , a word thats not really in the R230 life. ONE thing , the experience to date has certainly stopped my mind from rotting away and it is way ahead of the others for style and looks, as said before she is like a high class tart , likely to give you the ride or yr life BUT not for a fiver......

I view the r230 as being a supercar of its time with supercar running costs to match.
That said the maintenance costs are slowly coming down with the availability of rebuilt struts etc meaning it's no longer the wallet crushing expense it once was to replace a bad one.
Similarly with SBC there are rebuilt pumps available to help reduce costs. With few exceptions there are not many parts that aren't available rebuilt as well as new.

R230 SL500 - oh yeah!
Might be expensive ???:shock::shock::shock: (Good luck though:D)

Got the service done yesterday - actually not as bad as I thought. It did need 16 new spark plugs as it seemed like the ones in there were the originals - 16 of them ain't cheap!
Other than that, oil and filter, brake build, bit of coolant, new v-belt and got a few things checked out that were on the original inspection report from when I bought it.
Runs a lot smoother now!

Edit - forgot to say - less than £550 but I have been using the same place for 20 years!

I was canning the **** off my R171 on Sunday and getting the yellow idiot light flashing all the way into 3 figures... No fun whatsoever :p:D

I would have thought that was all the fun, getting into three figures on your private M/way
