Found a weird 'fault' on my old '87 200T yesterday. For the last few months its just been started weekly, run up to temp for a few minutes moved a few yards forward and back to stop brakes locking and then turned off again, Been getting a bit more difficult to start recently. The usual for those types is press accelerator pedal to floor and release it slowly. then turn key without touching accelerator pedal and always immediate start.
So decided to check over ignition system and found that the 2 push down and twist old type rods retaining the (original?) dizzy cap were not connected to anything and the cap was just sitting there. Sorted and replaced cap, rotor arm and plug leads as well....been meaning to do that for some time anyway. Question is, how did it even run in that condition and how long had it been like that? It's no the sort of thing you look for is it?
Just another of life's little mysteries I suppose.

If the cap is a good fit on the distributor and in its notch then it will run OK, the leads sometimes set and harden enough to keep the cap in place.
A loose cap is something that would normally be picked up at service time. I pop the cap off to check the rotor arm and cap condition when servicing any vehicle with a distributor.

What's the hex in the right plug for? I remember my Father replacing some core plugs and being a good Engineer he turned up a stepped tool for knocking them in to depth. Much laughter from him on the first one as the tool was stuck in the core plug, not enough clearance to cater for the plug compressing!

This is a screw in core plug, much to my amazement. That one will be easy to install, there is another screw in type on the right side of the engine block. ;)

This is for the Throttle body that sits underneath the supercharger. It has a small loom extension that is glued into its connector, double check no wiring faults, frayed wiring etc. If not that, then its the flap itself :(

I did some research on this over Christmas Alex and found your exact reply...........I have never removed a supercharger before so looks like this will be my first  Hope it isn't as time consuming as the inlet manifold on the Money Pit???
I am guessing that this supercharger throttle body has been the main culprit of the intermediate performance issue all along to accompany the water on the ECU
I believe the throttle body under the supercharger is the same as the standard V8's so might be affordable new.......The ever optimistic me......:D

my car is up on axle stands at the moment with no front bumper or head light attached (replacing xenon unit) just come back from dropping my son off at respite and noticed a hose just sort of dangling there, comes off the washer bottle, if it wasn't bad enough that the old xenon unit was totally missing i have looked at the headlight and found that the headlight washer unit has been snapped off as well, oh well, found a cheap one on eBay, another £16.00 paid out, it's all little amounts i seem to be paying out on this car.

Nothing! :(
The poor car has been sat sitting for a few days now.
Time to rectify that with a little drive I think. :)

Whilst you’re at it, give the boot release handle some lubrication love, they can stick in the open position with all the salt and dirt road spray.
I‘d also give the inside of your screen a good clean whilst you’re in between oil changes…:D

Cleaned and lubricated the folding mirrors on my C220, as well as fitting one projector puddle lights with the MB logo (the passenger side will be done soon). Trial fitted a sweeping indicator to the mirror of the C220 but the quality of the fit is not that impressive, (plus I snapped off a lug on the new lens which was annoying) so just refitted the original.
Also fitted one to the drivers door of the wife’s CLK Cab.
Both took a bit of fettling to fit but looking good.

Combination of wd40, another ptfe based lubricant and motorbike chain lube. Passenger mirror wasn’t folding all the way in but is perfect now.
Also sorted the dipping mirror when putting in reverse.
Used the same sprays except the chain lube which was replaced by chain wax, for the sunroof, which was also straining to tilt and slide, but is now as smooth as a silk wrapped smooth thing.
