Not what I’ve done but what I’ve been told about my car.
So after some changes at work I’ve been placed back into our car allowance scheme. The email I’ve been dreading arrived earlier today, your car doesn’t meet the scheme criteria and I will either have to forfeit the allowance, change the car or take a company Mondeo (not practical for me to have a company car as I work from home anyway and my business mileage is tiny). So I’m hoping that I can turn around and say I won’t change and you can’t reduce my allowance as it was an existing car rather than being bought while under the scheme.
However I am never normally lucky so I may unfortunately be on the hunt for a new car, it must be under 10 years old, do at least 40mpg combined, have Co2 under 160g/km and cannot be a sports car (so saloon, 4x4 or Estate).
:(
My last role, the car had to be under 5 years old - so my ‘68 plate was accepted :p:D

Try an S213 E220d very nice indeed

That’s what I’m considering if I can find one the same spec level as the 212, slim pickings unfortunately

Don’t try a 213 if you want a 212...

Last time some HR department forced that one on me I bought a Fiat Punto and turned up to customers in that.

A year after that I left and took them for a 5 figure sum for constructive dismissal.

That's a bit strict isn't it. When I had a car allowance all only rules were that it had to be under 7 years old and no larger engine than 3.0 litres and I was given free fuel too.

Used to have a C63...

When I was contracting at a large utility, they tried to impose quite strict car rules... even though I wasn't an employee! (And bizarrely, although the role undoubtedly required a company vehicle of some sort, when they tried to make the roles permanent, they withdrew company car or allowance from the package!)

I simply stated that if they wish to spend 5-6hrs+ a day driving up & down the country in a 1.0 hatchback, with an 8hr day on site in between... they could help themselves!

The policy was put in place by people who got company cars due to management tier, but didn't actually have to do any miles as part of their job... surprise surprise.

It’s the same rules I had to deal with 4 years ago, thankfully this time I’m in a different position and after saving them much more than the car allowance in the last 4 months in software maintenance renewals alone I suspect they may just cave.
If not then I quite like the look of the S213, if I can find one with the spec my S212 currently has, or the RX450h is also interesting, just not an Eclass :(

The only issue I had with the car allowance is that it started at £585 pm and didn't change for 10 years until we were taken over by a rival company who dropped the allowance to £450 pm.

Had two rear RS5's fitted today, the phone quote was £15 each fitted. turned out they forgot to mention, £3 per tyre disposal + VAT. So £43. Still not too bad as it works out fitted for £221.
It's going to be an expensive month, A service Frdiay including AT service, and I really need the rear pads changing.......

And, the two front wheel speed sensors need replacing :)

That's not bad is it, speed sensors are not a lot of money either, you'll miss your cruise control until they are done

No not really, still £16 cheaper doing this than using Black Circles. The speed sensor problem has not raised it's head in over a week, and then it only came on twice after hitting a pot hole. Cruise control has been ok.

After being shamed by @CrustyClam with his air filter box cleaning I remembered that I had a new orange turbo inlet seal in the garage stocks .
I removed the air boxes , hoovered out my air filters which had 8k on them . Spray cleaned the maf batwing thingy and put it all back again .
Quick hours work to keep me in the game with other members top quality under the bonnet action :D

Get that locking wheel bolt off the car immediately!

I took mine for a spirited drive for fresh fruitings yesterday and my tyres are (thankfully) all still round and black :)

There does appear to be a greater number of screws and nails around since lock-down started - perhaps like dolphins in Venice they're returning to our roads in greater numbers

(Or perhaps, there's just been less traffic so your chance of picking up one has increased greatly)
