To be fair, the tracking is a mile out as well, so that can’t have helped
Like I said. Tracking was bang on having been set before going to France and rechecked yesterday.

This is the tyre from the other side. Note the tread missing in chunks. Some chunks showed visible cords at the bottom of the pit.
Date code was 1919 so not excessively old.

Also bear in mind the car passed its MOT just two weeks ago and no mention of tyre issues.

New Avon's have now been fitted.

Drove mate up to Leeds and back on the weekend to buy a 2019 Tesla Model X P100D. Really easy ride up in the CLS 350cdi , attempted to be fuel efficient and managed more than 50mpg there and back on the motorway sections (who can avoid blasting it between roundabouts in MK?)
Also, the CLS hit 100k over the weekend which means I have done 6k since Jan just driving evenings and weekends. Getting close to Service and MOT time so needs to run it through a pre-MOT check and ensure it will go through fine and dandy.

I would be checking the performance of my shocks/dampers with that kind of ‘chunking’

Mate gave me update on the purchase today. The few parts I had pointed out to the dealership for replacement are taking longer to get in so likely to be weekend of the 17th/18th for collection. Guess at least I have an additional week to prepare for the drive. We need to at least plan somewhere to test the Ludicrous mode vs CLS to see how badly I lose ;)

With the shoulder rubbed smooth in the other pic I would argue the tracking ain’t bang on. In fact, the shoulder of this one is getting low as well. I assume the tracking wasn’t checked with the scrubbed tyres on? If it was, you wasted your money.

With all due respect three tyre places have looked at the tyre and stated the same.
The tread belts were delaminating from the carcass.
You could push your hand between the belt and lower carcass to a depth of around half the tread.

Whether a tyre is scrubbed or not will make little difference to tracking as the measurement is independent of tyre. The datum points are the rims not the tyre. You can successfully track a car with no tyres and no wheels at all if you can get the weight borne by the suspension.

If “Merc” includes my Smart fortwo,
I put these new black ABS number plate surround holders on, they are so simple to install and tidy up your number plate if you are fussy in that way like I am instead of having screw heads all over your number plate, there is a huge following for them by like minded people.
I used to use double sided automotive sticky tape but I was told that it was illegal, so problem solved.
