Oh yer, strike me when I'm down :p
I'd heat up the vinyl as much as you can - managements hairdryer and/or oven (when they're out natch...) and get it stretched over the board / padding as fast as you can whilst it's still warm.

I've made a few things and with bulldog clips and decent contact adhesive been quite happy with the outcome.

Picked it up from the MD after a repair for a leaking coolant pipe , all done and thank F for the approved used warranty as it was a five hour job plus the part.

Did a bit of digging last night at work regarding a replacement starter battery should i require one in the future , so i asked the parts guy for a price - lucky i was sitting down - £1200 + VAT + fitting which is an extreme pi$$ take. He said as it was a lightweight Lithium Ion battery it was stupidly expensive.

Why fit a "lightweight" battery into a 2T+ SUV when all you save is around 5kg ??? , most SUV owners carry around more than that in the boot in "rubbish".

That would certainly make it easier Rus thank you. I have heat guns and hair driers, even hair straighteners. It was a little warmer yesterday and found it easier to pull the vinyl over the edges. I have proper trimmers glue, which works great as long as you apply it to both surfaces and let it go really tacky.

Looks like new battery time for the BMW, can’t complain though it’s 10 years old and just starting to show it’s age with a voltage of 11.9V when I checked with a multimeter. I’ll check the battery rating and get one ordered from Tanya this weekend. Interesting how modern cars behave when the battery is starting to fail all the tell tale signs of electrical shutdown were there the other day although funnily enough the car started on the button.

Varta battery ordered from Tayna online they always seem very competitive on price.

As a point of interest for those who prefer to buy Varta batteries the Varta G14 95 Ah (019) battery has now been replaced with the Varta A5 95 Ah (019)

Just washed, clayed and polished the C70 after 6 months… amazing how well the lower sides were still beading and I used to say to myself, that still looks ace but, seriously find time to give a scrub.

Hopefully I’ll find some time this summer to blitz it with the rotary to get it to its best.

I used to have a Ryobi cordless for applying non cut polish and liquid waxes (on the rare occasion I use a liquid form one) but, that was stolen last year. I’ll put another on order now in fact! Once I had done one panel by hand, I wished I hadn’t started

Posts above about LHD headlights.

Many years ago I had a Simca. I was in BAOR at the time. I'm fairly certain that my memory is correct but I seem to remember that the back of headlight on my RHD Simca had a lever that tilted the headlight bulb one way or the other. Used to change it over before driving on the other side.

My brother had an avenger. He had 2 pairs of sealed beam headlights. One for UK one for the other side.

Later I had an LHD MB and when coming back to the UK I'd just roll the headlight tilt switch down and that would stop people flashing me.

Well seems my post about the G14 Varta battery being superceded was a little premature. The Varta A5 battery from Tayna arrived and all was well until I tried to fit the vent tube and guess what the vent port is at the wrong end for my fitment. Rang Tayna to be told that the vent tube is not necessary on an AGM battery as it’s valve controlled. My view is that if the manufacturer puts a battery in with a vent tube that’s what I’ll do - so long story short I’m extending the vent tubing so it connects up.

Registering the new battery to the the battery management system on the BMW with the iCarsoft wasn’t a problem so all good there

Took the Volvo in for service at the independent specialist and got an S60 as a courtesy car. It's okay if a little bland inside but comfortable seats make up for it.

They improved the handling with this generation and I had a look at Volvo v40 equivalent to the Astra GTC which is what I should have got instead of the Astra. I didn’t think much of the quality of those and nether did Volvo in Chippenham, they felt nothing like a proper Volvo and the Astra was pretty poor for quality despite being hard wearing.

Today I did something frivolous and childish to my non Merc.
A bootlid that big was just begging for some attention.
Tomorrow is likely E220 oil change time.
