Guys,
My aim was not to offend but to get a view from you all. I did however stat to enjoy the one sided banter but a joke to far and am genuinely sorry for anyones loss in such an event and please do not use my attempt at an refrence as condoning an terrable act. I am no previous chineese member or hawk you refer to but a first time forum member. I will make this my last post if the next 5 post tell me to sod off and leave us to our 1 sided views?

I have just had my car serviced and some other work completed at an 'independent specialist' as you call them, and I must say how impressed I am with him. It was far cheaper than the quote I had at my local dealer, I will be going back to the specialist in future. I have read this thread from the beginning and I feel that all people are entitled to be in business no matter what their trade aand all customers are entitled to choose where they take their requirements to. I made my choice and am more thsn happy with it. The garage gave me a written report on it and I believe it is the 'electornic service sheet' looking at it in front of me that a few have been discussing here.

We are not all made of money but as I said I am happy with the results from the specialist I used and his credentials and reasons for leaving Mercedes after many years with them. It has given me a few quid to spend on my Grandchildren!

The adjustment from Spain to UK is proving to have its things to say the least! weather being one although the heat there this summer has been too hot even for locals. I can recommend Hertfordshire Merx Ltd, he was recomended to me from this website and I am pleased i went there.

I have a 3 year old E-class and am asking myself the question than many other owners must have asked themselves? Should I continue to use my very reliable main dealer or should I start using an independent garage? what are the pro's and con's? is it just cost?

Find a good local independent to use - (you should already have started using one by now in my opinion, it wouldn't have affected your warranty)
And don't think that having a nice line of Merc dealer stamps in your history book will reap rewards when you sell the car - it wont add that much value if any (you will still have a full service history), especially when you consider how much extra you actually paid out to get those stamps!

I dread to think how much I would have spent on garage bills if I had used the main dealer for services and repairs for the entire 4 years I've owned my car.

You fail to mention, if you buy a new Merc ...... there's no service book ........ so you'll have to keep invoices, from an indie ............. or get a printout, if you use a dealer !
