And another one, in case you think it's isolated:

http://www.okwu.edu/blog/2015/11/this-is-not-a-day-care-its-a-university/

This is Not a Day Care. It’s a University!
Dr. Everett Piper, President

Oklahoma Wesleyan University

This past week, I actually had a student come forward after a university chapel service and complain because he felt “victimized” by a sermon on the topic of 1 Corinthians 13. It appears that this young scholar felt offended because a homily on love made him feel bad for not showing love! In his mind, the speaker was wrong for making him, and his peers, feel uncomfortable.

I’m not making this up. Our culture has actually taught our kids to be this self-absorbed and narcissistic! Any time their feelings are hurt, they are the victims! Anyone who dares challenge them and, thus, makes them “feel bad” about themselves, is a “hater,” a “bigot,” an “oppressor,” and a “victimizer.”

I have a message for this young man and all others who care to listen. That feeling of discomfort you have after listening to a sermon is called a conscience! An altar call is supposed to make you feel bad! It is supposed to make you feel guilty! The goal of many a good sermon is to get you to confess your sins—not coddle you in your selfishness. The primary objective of the Church and the Christian faith is your confession, not your self-actualization!

So here’s my advice:

If you want the chaplain to tell you you’re a victim rather than tell you that you need virtue, this may not be the university you’re looking for. If you want to complain about a sermon that makes you feel less than loving for not showing love, this might be the wrong place.

If you’re more interested in playing the “hater” card than you are in confessing your own hate; if you want to arrogantly lecture, rather than humbly learn; if you don’t want to feel guilt in your soul when you are guilty of sin; if you want to be enabled rather than confronted, there are many universities across the land (in Missouri and elsewhere) that will give you exactly what you want, but Oklahoma Wesleyan isn’t one of them.

At OKWU, we teach you to be selfless rather than self-centered. We are more interested in you practicing personal forgiveness than political revenge. We want you to model interpersonal reconciliation rather than foment personal conflict. We believe the content of your character is more important than the color of your skin. We don’t believe that you have been victimized every time you feel guilty and we don’t issue “trigger warnings” before altar calls.

Oklahoma Wesleyan is not a “safe place”, but rather, a place to learn: to learn that life isn’t about you, but about others; that the bad feeling you have while listening to a sermon is called guilt; that the way to address it is to repent of everything that’s wrong with you rather than blame others for everything that’s wrong with them. This is a place where you will quickly learn that you need to grow up!

This is not a day care. This is a university!

Massive problems in some of America's universities over the lest 10-15 years now as regards student attitudes. Not just political like this, but the way in which students view themselves in relation to the employment sphere around them. Tutors prohibited from giving critical feedback; "contemplation rooms" being established for students to escape lectures if they are concerned about aspects of life...

Breeding a bunch of emotionally unstable pansies

What is wrong with ten pints of Guinness, a mighty meaty pizza and nightclub dance floor so sticky you leave your shoes behind I don't know. Oh and the odd lecture or exam.

Sounds familiar

It's a real concern; students are leaving their universities now less emotionally mature than kids going into high school two decades ago. I saw one professor interviewed who commented "They expect to come here to start their growing-up".

So you're a 10 x Guinness man? My suspicions confirmed! :D

They are too mollycoddled these days, everything is an issue and causes a problem, they will be useless to employers and probably sue if someone says something they deem rude / bullying (better not come in my office then)

I have been known to partake in a few glasses of "Black Irish Water" when the Rugger is on

It is you saying "Now don't take this the wrong way, but ......." OR "I'm sorry but ....."

These phrases trigger a warning that they are not going to like what is coming next so they get time to prepare.

Jon,

I understood that bit ;) it was more rhetorical... where I'm struggling with it is where they think that anyone gives a F*** about their feelings.

Well that's the point- they clearly do think that. And that there is the problem...

Youth is doing A-Levels, his teachers are distraught about Trump being elected.

My shoulder was not available to cry on and neither was the youths :D and they haven't got over Brexit yet.

Why am I paying for such lily livered handwringers to try and pollute his mind.

He is supposed to respect democracy and people should rely on his word.

Oh and Farage is a hundred times better than Corbyn and I don't want Farage running the country.

FS, you should take a visit to the school and deliver a richly-deserved slapping to each of the handwringers. Pollute is indeed the word... there has been a well-delivered campaign to water down the West's inherent sense of competition and drive to succeed for the last 20 odd years. Sports teams not having winners ("they're all winners!") etc.

My 7yo's teacher is as wet as a haddocks bathing costume, you can see him scared to death of saying anything I might find offensive!

Trigger point? :D

This whole "scared of giving offence" thing has been taken way beyond the remotely plausible nowadays. I mean, I work around three distinct foreign cultures in my job and there are some niceties to observe. Never joke that a Russian is like a German, for instance (that's a killing insult), never joke that a Japanese man has a hairy chest (it implies that they are burakumin, the lowest of the low, ranking beneath street prostitutes, night-soil collectors and even estate agents), or that a Chinese man has white hands (to do with the Japanese occupation of Manchuria- details are way obscure). But regardless of all of these you can still have a laugh and a joke without any concern of calls of RACIST! and YOU HURT MY FEELINGS or YOU DIDN'T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT MY OPINION WAAAAH (although that last is probably heard most often from the European types...). Certainly no one is scared to give offence to wildly different cultures, because they're mostly grown-up mature adults who recognize that they're all professional and no offence was meant if a slippage occurs.

I work with 4:

3 English
1 Scot
1 50/50 (English / Welsh)
1 Brummie

The bants never stops.

Cultural awareness is politeness (I had a Japanese client, met him for the first time and handed him a business card with both hands, he was both startled and very impressed), being scared of insulting anyone is stupid, there will always be someone insulted by something

Trump gets knocked back again in the US Courts

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38927175

As predicted. And, as predicted, this will go to the Supreme Court.

So the motion to oppose the Executive Order was raised by an openly Democrat-run institution, the ACLU in the most Liberal Appeals Court in the land, the 9th Circuit. By the way the motion was that the rights of non-US citizens to come to the USA were being violated. Now non-US citizens HAVE no rights to come to the USA, so one must question the motives of the Appeals Court judges in this case separately from the case itself.

The EO drew deliberately on legislation already ratified and policy already promulgated by Congress. The countries identified in the state-sponsored terrorism risk list had been on that list since 1973- nothing to do with Trump. The media storm surrounding this deliberately threw smokescreens around the actual facts- "GREEN CARD HOLDERS Banned!!" (no, they weren't) etc. Thus, the motion to oppose the order was a Democrat false-flag operation tied into their deliberate, stated policy to oppose the peaceful transition of power to the GOP.

What hasn't been reported in any news I've seen on this side of the pond is that the First Circuit Appeals Court this week heard a similar motion and upheld the EO. So now there are two Appeals Courts issuing directly contradictory decisions.

The 9th Circuit has a rate of between 75-80% of its decisions overturned by the Supreme Court, due in part to their extreme liberalism. They are the Circuit most often used for any forms of protestation against human rights violations by government. In this case it is against a case of an EO based on already ratified legislation. E.g. a tremendous waste of everyone's time, just like the Crown vs. Miller case here on Article 50.
