Geography and currency denominations are not relevant these are 'virtual' transactions London clears globally - and we're very good at it!

So it takes 80,000 employees to do this?

Geography and currency denominations are not relevant these are 'virtual' transactions London clears globally - and we're very good at it!

So it takes 80,000 employees to do this?

The article says:
A clearing house is an enormous middleman standing between buyers and sellers from all over the world. The economies of scale of this vast trading pool save customers from around the world tens of billions in cost every year and, according to a report by consultants EY, support over 80,000 direct and indirect UK jobs.

As I said, my gripe is that although it's hard to believe, our government appears to have no handle on it:

UK government complacent as Europe launches new raid on London

- Then if it's all true, you can start worrying - what else?

NEWS - Farron has resigned
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/14/breaking-tim-farron-resigns-liberal-democrat-leader/

Tim Farron has resigned as Liberal Democrat leader after senior party figures triggered a coup against him earlier today, claiming it would be "impossible" for him to continue while "living as a faithful Christian".

That's the UKIP and Lib - Dem leaders gone then. Rumour has it Farage is thinking of returning...........again.
Interesting times.

Don't split hairs! Why don't you say POSSIBLY Project Fear?

- POSSIBLY they will pass an EU law for it.
- POSSIBLY we will lose 80,000 jobs (if they pass a law WE WILL).
- POSSIBLY we'll have to pay more taxes to pay their UB40 benefits.

If you read my initial post you can see that my gripe is about our government which apparently hasn't even started to do anything about it - but now it's so weakened by the election fiasco that it doesn't look good at all... but of course you have to try and say something "opposite" to a post of mine.

Why don't you find something to argue about with my post about Davis' team losses?
Because it is all supposition at the moment, and if it costs 80,000 jobs to get out of the EU then it is a small price to pay. And anyway, they are all bankers who you normally consider to be scum.

You're doing it again - putting words in my mouth... making it up as you go along now?
I have NEVER used the word 'scum' to describe bankers - I challenge you to find such a post (and apologise for being defamatory because you can't).

I have always strongly objected - ever since they nearly bankrupted all of us - to bankers being apparently from a separate race above the law e.g.: doing something that you or I would get banged up for and then getting away with it by "agreeing to pay a fine of £x" and I said the same about Tesco directors who fiddled their accounts (which kept up the reported profits./their bonuses and share price) and then likewise "agreed to pay a fine" to settle - they can't even report it that they were made to pay a fine.

- And it's not all supposition - wake up and READ my original post properly where I posted what Reuters said:

Germany will apply to host the London-based European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Banking Authority (EBA) following Britain's departure from the European Union, a government spokesman said on Monday.

That ain't supposition - it's a stated intention - unless perhaps you really think it's a Project Fear item? But going by the lack of reported effort that the government appears to be making to do anything about it I shouldn't think the 80,000 at risk employees would appreciate your (or anyone else) shrugging it off as a small price to pay - how dare you be flippant about people's livelihood - shame on you for that!
- You wouldn't like it if the boot was on the other foot!

I am sure if Dim Tim had got the avalanche of remoaners voters he hoped for he would have found the courage to carry on like the other chief anti-democracy campaigner the Scottish fish he got it wrong.
Most have moved on even when they voted remain.
Up to the election he managed to win the struggle with his conscience.

He is not an anti democracy campaigner. And you speculate as to the reason for his retirement.

The EU don't want us to leave, we should take note and have another referendum... then we will all be remainers, and EU citizens and everyone will be happy. Nigel will come back that is the only downer, but I'm sure someone can get him drunk or Trump may have a job for him in Siberia.

Why should we have another referendum?
The majority chose to leave. That's what democracy is all about.
That's why Theresa May is forming the next government.

The draft refers to EU trades only, London clears for the global economy. I agree Euros form a substantial proportion of the total, but certainly not all.

And what would you say if the country voted to leave for a second time?

The EU don’t want us to leave as they fear the gravy train they have created is going to come off the rails quite rapidly.

Unless the EU has a dramatic change then I for one wouldn’t be changing and voting to remain!

Have a google: Parkinson's law
Ask yourself if it applies to the EU?
Look at the quoted history of the British civil service during the decline of the 'empire'?

The EU won't change dramatically unless it's even more the other way. Remember they subscribe avidly to Liberalism so there is a very strong desire for order above all else.

We won't change dramatically (national mindset) either. Remember we are a nation of Realists, to the core, no matter the socialist tendencies of our politicians. We will always ask "What's in this for us?" even if it's low grade public mutterings. And it's those that get represented in referenda.

I have dark suspicions that the current state of the EU is akin to Germany in 1938. Loading itself heavily with future debt of one form or another and desperate to secure a source of foreign income while rabidly suppressing internal dissent.

I disagree about the 'gravy train' but the EU not wanting us to leave is not a reason for us to remain.

There is much talk about our financial affairs, pound drops, deficit, etc.

Does anyone really know the state of EU finances?

As I understand it they do not file financial reports for signing off.

Would any business do this or be allowed to?

There are many good things and good intentions from the EU but in my mind this does not outweigh the faults.

I just wish this could all be settled so the UK and EU can get on with things, but I fear this will all rumble on for a long time yet.

I have half an idea that the EU knows the true state of its finances about as well as the Soviet Union did its, in 1985.

"Dim Tim..remoaners...Scottish fish..." You have no idea how much you sound like the typical DUP politician...and that's not a good thing.
