I am a major share holder at Ryan air!! I feel my point is starting to frustrate? I still don't understand how using a main dealer is so bad, so what that they tell you how worn items are on your car, because you choose they can't force you. And the fact you can supply your own oil plus they are now much more competitive, why don't we use them? And if you have a 1999 car with corrosion they may help you out!!

There are people with 2006 car that cannot get the rust fixed

No. It senior! But I stand by the fact that mb dealers are more accountable than independents, also when indi's can't fix a car they always go back to the dealer, and in most cases don't tell the customer.

Please enough is enough indies cant fix and they send them to the dealers,,,I have been working on forums for 4 years and have been on 66,000 post, and read 1000s more, and I have never ever read or seen a remark like that

You have to remember that the majority of car owners do not have a clue about cars and if the garage tells them that their brakes are 50% worn when they are only 20% worn, they do not know any better and agree to have them replaced. The same with oil, how many customers do you think drop of their cars & tell the service desk, don't charge me for oil, I've left some in the boot.

The simple fact is that someone has to pay for the big fancy showroom, the free TV & coffee, the courtesy car & everything else that comes with a visit to a Mercedes workshop. Advertising services for £199 is not enough, they have to make up the difference by charging for other work or they would go bust because the overheads are so high.

I think they could get rid of a layer of management, let me talk to the mechanic, not someone in a suit at the front desk who knows nothing about cars but will pass on my complaint to the mechanic, who does not fix the fault because the guy who knows nothing about cars has not understood the fault I was complaining about. As I've said before, every time MB work on my car, I have to go back to get it fixed a second time. Why should I pay a premium for service like that?

For someone who came on asking open questions, you seem to know an awful lot.

Did you know that some indies get signifcant amounts of work from MB dealers when they're busy or short-staffed?

Same goes for BMW. So ask for a test drive with mechanic in car... then you get to speak to the real thing !!

Surprised a major shareholder of Ryanair would give a "Flying" F*** about service costs for a car.

Thank you for sharing that with us. Sadly, it is not a credential likely to improve your credibility in any group focusing on "customer service" or "customer experience". The low budget airlines all make extensive use of the technique of declaring a base price to attract the prey, then every other item (toilets, seats?) comes as an extra.

They also superimpose the technique of of inertia selling (slip it into the bill - you can remove it if you spot it and ask for it to be removed, otherwise you have "bought it" - e.g. travel insurance, bags in the hold or a specific seat if you check in on line).

Let us hope that MB Dealerships do not follow all of these leads!

That is my exact point!
I know the budget airline industry very well and I mirror us as the independent garage, and I mirror virgin and BA as the Main dealer... (Are you still with me at this point malcome and russ?) o.k then i'll continue... and "we" the budget air line bring customers in on the cheap hook and end up delivering bad service but charge in some cases in excess of ba and virgin, due to all the extra costs, and I think we should be carefull that this is not what some independents could be doing!!
With the stick I'm getting on this subject, I am fine that most people will ignore my point but for every bad person representing a main dealer there are a number of customer service staff paid for by MB that will fix the problem or give discount to resolve issues. For every good (or great ) independent there are upto 3-4 that are cowboys!! in most cases the main dealers have sacked them and no other dealer will take them on so they are left with no alternative but to start-up alone!
My simple point is research you inderpendent before you take there advise as gospel.

Not true - MB are useless at resolving customer issues. read the thread on here of the S Class owner who just won a 4 year legal dispute with Mercedes. MB stood up and lied in court.

Did you by any chance just make that statistic up?

That's an outrageous slander.

The good guys start up on their own. Starting your own business isn't for everyone, so there are no doubt some good guys at MB dealers. But those that have got anything about them go off on their own.

Specialist independants rely on a loyal customer base - they don't get many random, one-off customers, so they would soon fail if they were cowboys.

Can you tell me why with just 2 bad complaints from indies in the past 12 months, and say 25 from MB dealers where you get your info from.
