2012 sprinter3500
Hi all, new member here and new to the sprinter world, I just picked up a 2012 with 43,000 actual miles, runs/ drives great. I am noticing white smoke on occasion, I have noticed it does it every morning which I have ruled out as mostly steam but on occassion I see it after the temperture and the truck have warmed up. Check engine light is on noting EGR valve temperture sensor bank one sensor 3- I have this part ordered. Def fill light is on but its FULL. When I see the white smoke the exhaust is absolutely non-breathable- the strongest chemical burn smell I have ever smelled in my life. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,

It sounds like the van hasn't done much work, which can certainly be a blessing. It's quite possible that it's only done short runs having such low mileage - could be that the DPF (assuming that's what you meant by Def) is blocked. Try taking it for a good hard drive up the motorway or up and down a local dual carriageway - get it warm then put your foot down and don't be too kind to it - you may see a fair bit of smoke coming out the back, but that's the aim of the game. You will likely also have the chemical burn smell back again, not to worry, that's likely just the DPF/EGR system clearing itself out.

PS - good practice to check your engine oil, coolant etc before you do this, just in case :)
