Hello, I left my car for a few months without driving it, and the battery was flat.I subsequently jump started the car--like i've done several times before when this has occurred, and then left it to run for an hour or so then taken it for another 30 min drive.
This time ,unfortunately, when i tried to restart the car from ignition at a petrol station, the car didn't start- so after jumpstarting it (again!) I took it to Kwik Fit who say the battery is fine .
However, they say that there must consequently be a problem with the alternator.
Anybody out there with a similar experience?/ plus any recommendations on who to use and the cost involved here.
does the alternator get sent away for repair,or do i fit a reconditioned one?

Thank you for your thoughts and advice in advance.

If you can find a local Auto electrical outfit they may be able to repair your alternator, it might be just the regulator/brush pack that costs about £15 plus fitting, or it might be the rectifier diodes at fault. Failed diodes is often the result of momentary reversal of polarity whist jump leads are connected, did this happen?
If the brushes have failed completely the warning lamp will not come on when the ignition is on and the engine is stopped.
When the engine is running the battery voltage should be in the region of 14 to 14.5 volts.
