Got a 2009 Mercedes S550 4Matic. Everything was good with it no prior shaking, damage, weird noises, then I start the car and start driving and I see the message pop up (ABS & ESP currently unavailable) also the power steering turns off and it gets hard to turn the wheel. The only thing prior to this that I could think of is I get a message (check brake pads) and still haven’t had a chance to change them yet. Maybe it could be Because of the brake pads & sensor but not sure. I turn off the car and start it the message goes away and everything is normal then I hit 15 MPH and the message pops up and steering gets tough.

Sounds like ABS/Speed sensor. It will need plugging in to deepening which one.
Replace with an original. An aftermarket will not last.
The internals will need cleaning too where it picks the signal.

its the right age for the ABS sensors to magically go pop overnight

the park brake and a beep was probably the brake message you saw ? the pad sensors shouldn't bring up the ESP message. You may not find a stored code yet, the ABS sensors go a bit strange then die inside 6 months

its like clockwork they way they fail on this model.... check other forums, you can almost put in a chassis decoder and get it to say when the sensors will die on the 221... got to love that modern engineering

Had this issue on the CL (also 2009) a few weeks ago. Same message although no steering problems. From info on the forum guessed it would be the sensors and this proved to be correct. Decided to have both front ones done at the same time.

Good point re the above to get them both changed across the axel.
One of mine died, then three weeks later the other side died.
