I am wanting to change the instrument cluster and heater controls on my W208 from the original black to white dials.

I’ve obtained a reasonably priced instrument cluster from a 230 sport and I’m still looking to find a white dialled heater control.

A couple of questions about both changes. Firstly, with the instrument cluster if I just change over the units does the new unit have to be put on STAR before I further drive the car, or is it possible to do the swap and get the STAR and mileage correction done at a slightly later time. Furthermore, is it possible just to swap the new white dials and needles onto my current cluster and thereby avoid having to hook up to STAR altogether?

Secondly, while I’m looking for a heater control unit is it possible to just obtain a C class white dial heater control and just peel off the dials and refix them on my current unit. The reason I ask is that Ebay seems to have a few white dialled C class and SLK controls but none for a 208. Or is it possible to use these controls on a 208?
All advice and suggestions greatly welcome. :)

The 202 is nearly the same as the 208 on many parts it should be a straight swap on the heater control, and maybe a 210 also.

If you just change the instruments over like speedo and rev counter etc it should just work as before, but I do not know if the gearing is the same, it could well be

As always Malcolm thanks for your advice.

Am I right that if I just swap the whole cluster over that it will have to go on a STAR?
