Afternoon all,
Thought id' sign up again after some time away, (not in prison) to tell of my 2001, W210, rust adventure.
I bought the car in 2018 with 54500 miles, looking as new, having been garaged and with minimal rust.
By Jan this year the rust was spreading despite being treated with rust killer and kept under a soft cover, so I decided to get it taken care of.
It took me several weeks research to find a body shop with a good reputation that would look at it and I booked it in. £1200 + vat not including new pattern part front wings.
1 week later (last week) it was ready. It looked great with 2 new (Taiwanese) ebay wings fitted, rear arches and boot lid fixed and a coat of Brilliant Silver.
But..
Tried to fold the mirrors, only to hear a grinding noise for n/s and no movement
Rear bumper larger gap on the o/s
o/s rear door handle came off in my hand when I tried to use it
No Waxoil applied as requested and paid for and a God awful stink in the interior!
I don't usually moan publicly, but, this level of service has become normal now days, 1 out of the 4 I could deal with but all this?
Taking it back in tomorrow for sorting and I'll post the results if anyone's interested.
Regards Allan.

Sorry to read that Baddad. I had same story in 1976 with a VW Type3 Fastback.
Hope you get the matter resolved.

+1 : Go for it - they took your money so no holds barred!
It's surprising to get bad service like this - do they have a good reputation otherwise?

No, you are not expecting too much.

I see this all the time with body shops. I am yet to find a good one. The ones I do us, I give them the cars with everything stripped, and then I put it all back on myself, with new clips etc. Only way to make sure its done right!

If anyone can recommend a good bodyshop around us let us know!

As above though go back to them and express your dissatisfaction. Everyone makes mistakes and I would want to know if a customer was unhappy.

Ok, Expectations update,
Took the car back early morn and believe or not they were as good as gold!
They showed me the underseal inside they arches (A 3m product of some kind) by removing a couple of screws on a liner so,
No1, tick.
Re set the back bumper, a bracket gone under instead of over, No2, tick
and No 3, he got a 2nd hand part (electric mirror guts) on order from Dronsfields there and then and its in for fitting next week. Tick.
Stink went away, new paint smell perhaps.
Now, having given the car a real good hard waxing this weekend, head to toe, I've come to the conclusion that they,

PJ Repair Centre, (Bodyvision) Reading Berks

actually, did a really Nice job, good colour match, no over spray on anything, door handles and all other trim removed or nicely masked.
Ok so there's no clear coat, but it will live 8 tenths of its life under a nice cover on the drive and I'll wax it often.
Seen an ebay seller with re-furbed Mekab wheels I fancy next (£112) each o_O . we'll see.......
Thanks for Interest shown and your comments are much appreciated.

Looking really good! One thing to bear in mind though. Don't put a cover over new paint - you'll end up with blistering.
