Dear all,

I've noticed rust on both front wheel arches and rust on the wings too. Are there any reliable body repair shops in Derby/Birmingham area.

Also, should I repair the rust or replace the wings knowing fully well that the new wings might not fit. I drove to a garage AA specialists in Derby, and the owner said he was going to cut the metal out and fix both wings for £500 including painting.

Can I get some advice please?

The original wings will be better than buying new, yes cut the metal out and once done waxoil the rear where it meets the bumper heavily, and all the inside lip.

Thanks for that. I'll go back to the repair shop for a proper assessment then.

Your year is OK for good quality, it was a shame that the wheel arch liners were a lousy fit allowing the mud to build up in the fronts. It was the same on the 124's.

Hi,

I finally contacted Mercedes benz Solihull, and they found some new, original wings each costing about £250 (plus VAT). Now, to find a reliable bodyshop that will do a good job, plus paint without overcharging.

Does anyone know about the SL shop in Redditch, and if they are a good try?

Hello:

yes the SL Shop have a very very good rep - I think the guy in charge is called Bruce Greetham; they will have go-to people for every SL repair aspect
