Felt same way. But not getting had by Benz. So went aftermarket for what to date has been at least as good and somewhat less in cost to own/run.

In one way it depends on what version of Comand satnav you have. For example, NTG4 which is fitted to my pre-facelift S204, you do not need a PIN or anything to run the DVD's and update the maps. OK, it's maybe a bit naughty as the DVD's say something about only having a licence to use them once, but then who is likely to pick you up if you buy and use a genuine MB "second user" set from the forum or Ebay?? I might just be guilty of having done that once or twice, especially as not only are the DVD's a damned sight cheaper than MB or comand.co.uk brand new ones, but also you can then recoup some or all of the cost by selling them on!

MB must have got wind of this, as from Facelift W/S204 and NTG4.5 you not only need the DVD's, you also need a PIN generated from the MB mainframe server and specific to the VIN of your car - so you need a main dealer or an indie like comand.co.uk to generate the PIN as well as supply the DVD's - and the normal best price is a main dealer occasional deal for £99 - which is ridiculous when you can buy a TomTom or similar with lifetime free map updates (and maybe speed cameras as well) for £250!

MB are not alone in being an absolute rip-off for satnav updates - try updating the system on a Porsche, it's twice the MB price! Makes dumping the system for Android even more attractive!

great guys really know their stuff.... (and with all the legit kit to enable and register retrofit upgrades with Mercedes)

only difficulty is pricing structure its right up there. But its often better to get it done once correctly... with the right parts and nothing strange going on...
