Hi guys I'm new to this club,

So to get started, bought my cl500 a few months ago knowing it has a rear left hydraulic line leak now after I bought the car it has been sitting on the drive way It was empty on fluid so I decided to test it I filled it up with about 2 to 3 l of chf11s everything went up and down however the rear left did but slowly as it was leaking alot after i pinpointed the issue which was that it was broken near the bleeder nipple, now 3 weeks ago I removed the complete rear lines for both sides I got them fixed for £168 which was a good amount, I have fitted it last week filled it up again started the car happy that there are no leaks but still abc issue on the dash the car didn't go up or down I'm assuming it has a fair amount of air in the struts now, I borrowed a obd scanner scanned the car gave me these codes I have attached a screen shot. Now Friday I was able to lift the front with the scanner but the rears still nothing fronts don't want to go down rears don't want to go up bare in mind I didn't have a scanner when I bought the car so these codes are current and stored I am genuinely stuck on what I should do I have tried to bleed the rears some fluid and air came out but it seems there is no affect please help me I'm stuck

Hello and welcome,

I’ve merged you’re threads as there’s no requirement to post the same issue multiple times (it confuses members, and being honest they’re confused enough already most of the time…):cool::p:D

If you clear the codes and they come back the level sensors need checking odd all 4 could fail at the saim time though.
Look at live data and see what the readings are for height.
Also check the pressure of the ABC - it should be 170-200 bar.

As far as I know the only way to bleed the system is a Rodeo test using Star.

You could try lightly pressurising the ABC reservoir (5 -10 psi or so). I had an issue with my SL where the pump wouldn't prime after changing a strut. I used a cut down cork fitted with a car valve that I could pressurise with a bicycle pump in the dipstick hole. Fiddly but it worked.

Thank you for your reply,
the Abc pressure is at 225 bar the level sensors live data is at 0 even though the front is up all 4 readings are 0 so I'm not sure what to do I was thinking of testing the wire connections to the sensors however I can not find a wiring diagram for it and that sounds like a good idea I belive I have a pump laying around somewhere

I did try the rodeo with the scanner I borrowed however it says it won't do it if there are codes on the abc ecu so it didn't do it also it has another option of doing a roll test same thing won't do it unless there are no codes I did try clear the codes they woul go for about 0.01 seconds then come back

on another forum with a big section for 221 owners seems an ABC sensor on top of the strut is cheap and fails often - a few noticed the front jump up in traffic or something - replacing a dead £30 sensor on one rear made the fronts behave - many now think at 10 years just swap all of the budget sensors, to save trouble later - the other thing must be to bleed the system and swap the fluid and filter ?

why are you talking about air... I thought all CLs got the option ABC suspension and they don't use air ?

Thanks for your reply,
Yeah hydraulics my bad and new fluids in, all the level sensors are flagged on the scanner if you see the first picture I attached of all the codes that wouldn't go, how would I bleed it any suggestions lost kiwi gave a good one are there any other ways?

might be worth a punt - while u wait for new ones - seems they are $80 each (not sure why the parts thing claims more than one... front to back seems to be the same) - he's called them the wrong name... but that's normal on ebay

I think they are the suspension sensors...

the crash sensors for the air bags are different and sit on the chassis legs - open the bonnet and check the number of the bit on top of the suspension turrets ?

Will check it but I am confused because the car would go up and down but now it doesn't I need to pressurizes the hydraulic tank and bleed the rears I did try bleed it yesterday a bit of air came out from the right rear same with left rear

I have never played with ABC but I believe its a bit of a specialist subject... to swap the fluid there's a special bleed tool to enable you to do it well / easily

Also worth checking the sensor links arm, they tend to seize up with rust. ( in the plastic cups) , and then the arm part of the sensor does not move and could snap off. Imrepalced all 4 but kept this as it cleaned up perfectly. What CL500 do you have? 216? 215?
