Hi all!

My very first post here, somewhat belated in joining (I have had my CLK now since January 21) I AM LOVING IT! (I need some not-so-bad rust removing from my rear arches, new fog lights as the old wiring loom was severed in a collision, a new clock spring & for some reason my rear registration lights only flicker on and off when the car starts and do not stay on, I have even replaced the bulbs)

BUT (other than the fitting of the clock spring which I already posses) I have purchased TWO of the below:

I am not sure if I have purchased the correct ones (I was intentionally going to buy 2xRamAir filters but due to me having no pipe to prevent them from sucking up hot air, I went with a set that included a pipe, which has only cost me £60 rather than £100, as I would have needed to buy two extension tubes)

My question is, am I meant to fit both breather tubes? Is there even two breather inlet valves for me to fit the tubes onto?

Any help would be beneficial, even if you tell me to cancel the order and simply purchase 2xRamAir filters with the addition of the hoses.

The car is lowered, has rear bumper allows, a carbon fibre lip spoiler, original 5 spoke AMG alloys (which are in desperate need of a refurb)

I'll be posting some pictures later on tomorrow as I could really do with getting involved with this community and make some good friends who can provide some insight.

Thank you!

Tom

Not a good idea as they have poor filtration so will let more dirt into the engine as the filter material is more open structure.

Then there's the surface area .
It can't possibly match those paper oe commonly used .

Welcome to the forum Tom but sadly I don't think you'll find to many supporters here for shiny blue things to go under the bonnet.

We've had a CLK Sport AMG (the AMG bit is just a trim option) in silver blue for some years now... it's a great looking car and has served us well. We take pride in it being unmolested and all the cash is put into maintenance to keep it spot on.

Hi and welcome.. I would stick with OEM filters too.. no real difference in performance and better for the engine.

Personally I think all these good looking filters do is increase the noise and make a dent in your wallet but…

Oh dear... one of my old days story getting wheeled out!

My first car was a Triumph Herald 12/50 as in the fuzzy image below. I have a degree of sympathy to the OP as said Herald had a Peco big bore silencer, 5.5J Dunlop sports wheels with 180 rally tyres at rear and 175s at front (early adopter of the offset), Hella driving lamps, air horns, sheepskin seat covers and Halfords headrests. All in the best possible taste of course.

The one step that was too far turned out to be the chrome pancake air filter with washable foam. Fitted it and drove the car down our drive getting out to look after a few yards as I though the bumper had fallen off and was catching on a tyre or something. Such was the dreadful intake rasp. That came straight off and the OE pancake went back on. An early lesson that modded isn't always better.

Modding has its place.
I ran a 1275 Cooper S rally car and the mods on that made very capable for gravel competition use but rubbish as a road car.
High lift wide overlap camshaft with 300° duration on inlet and exhaust and 95° overlap coupled to big valves and big bore manifold and a 45DCOE Weber carburettor with open trumpets driving through a straight cut close ratio gearbox.
And no trim.
If you weren't deafened by the intake bark, or the exhaust roar, then the whining of the gearbox made it a certainty. The hammering of stones on metal panels was the final weapon in the deafness arsenal.

As a road car it had no power at all below 3000rpm and any attempt to give it more accelerator would just result in coughs, farts and backfires,, then at 3100rpm all hell would break loose and it would pull to 7000+ accompanied by the sounds of a dozen heavy metal drummers accompanied by a whining that could shame a jet engine. There was a reason we wire helmets in that car and it had nothing to do with safety.
Any more than two hours on a road trip and you were knackered having been physically assaulted by the noise.

I learnt then that road cars need to be quiet (ish) if you don't want to ruin them.

Thank you all!
I have gone ahead and cancelled that order, BUT I have used the money refunded to buy two RamAir filters and extension tubes.
Unfortunately, to go ahead and find the OEM Air filter components, including engine cover, would cost me more time & money than to stick with the OEM, and I would prefer a deeper engine tone to go with the aftermarket exhaust.
I am planning on buying a CLK 500 in the middle of 2022, which I won't touch for love nor money.

I am under the impression that there won't be a difference in intake from a RamAir than, a universal cheaply produced airfilter, per se. I have only ever used those cheaply produced, china imported after-market cone filters so I haven't had a real life comparison other than watching youtube videos.

Agreed. Even that Herald got the full DIY sound insulation treatment. Then soon after that time I was running bigger luxury cars of the time like V8 Rovers, big Citroens etc.

In the decades since I've always liked a bit of refinement where possible.

Bit it looks cool init :p
I genuinely love after market components, but I completely see the passion with people of a different take on that. Stock is simplicity as they say.

The only mods I've ever pushed on cars are remaps (never owned a turbo kitted car) upgrading rods and cams, that's as far as my confidence goes! I was very close to buying a supercharger kit for this CLK 240 but I thought why not let that cash sit pretty in my savings and put it towards a CLK 500 in a year, give or take.
