Yep as I said earlier, mine hasn’t corroded yet, and they are 5 years old, just some kerb damage, which can only be noticed if looked closely, so think I will hold fort, until corrosion starts, or the kerb damage starts to affect my ocd.

Would you guys think that factory fitted diamond cut takes longer to corrode, especially if they have been coated, and the washed with ph neutral shampoo, compared to the ones refurbed.

I dont see the attraction of diamond cut wheels and cant stand the things on my S212. Too poncy and fragile a finish. In the real world damp is unavoidable and some occasional kerb contact is likely on cars that are driven regularly.

Mine are corroding from the hubs outward. No stone chip or kerb damage and the wheels have never been off the car. Still on my original tyres..

Ok job done. They also found one of my rims was buckled, (not during my two years of ownership!) so another £40 to fix this. I was sceptical about this at first, but this corner has had a long term very slow puncture which couldn't be detected in a water bath. The owner at Star Alloys explained the buckle meant the tyre was not quite seated properly, and so was letting out a whisper of air whenever I went over a speed bump etc. Anyway the powder coating looks great, and the new hub covers are £8 eBay jobs. I still prefer the original diamond cut finish, but given the problems spoken about above, powder coating is the right choice. IMG_5741 4.JPG IMG_5746.JPG

Aftermarket diamond cut processes now are better and more durable than factory finish So to say they aren’t suitable to the uk climate is rubbish.

Im an ex detailer and have had many sets done.

I use PB Powdercoating at Gainsborough and will not ever go anywhere else.
If you want a set done, contact Phil and mention Cherry Detailing for a 10% discount.

Incidentally, Jim White from White Details takes all of his there as well.

What guarantee do they offer on refurbished diamond cut?

EDIT: Just checked their site and they only offer 6 months for diamond cut wheels (vs 12 months for powder coated).

No matter how good the wheel re-furber is, Daimond cut/lacquered
wheels are very vulnerable, just one slight chip in the laquear, you might not even be able to see it, then water gets in, and then it goes milky, Powder coating is the way to go, in Sparkling Silver, they will still look great and a lot more durable, imo. :)

It's not the Diamond cutting process that is the problem, it's the Lacquer, it chips and therefore lets water in which causes the "Marbling" effect.

Having sold wheels and tyres I know what I am talking about, I have also been into several Wheel Refurbishers and seen the process.

No great suprise there

Powdercoat is the way to go
