You know, if i am totally honest my age is telling, there was a time when I would have done something similar to you but they frighten the bejeezers out of me.I was once "mown over" by a full petrol tanker that just did not see my brake lights and that thought stays with me so now i just move out of the way.:(

I can't stand the idiot whose three cars back in a convoy of cars driving along any road you care to mention and thinks the two cars infront of him have suddenly decided to pull over to the left and slow down with the sole reason of letting him pass, so he pulls out without looking in his mirrors.

It's only when he's about level with the first car he's overtaking that he looks in his mirrors and sees the five n half ton bright green and yellow Mercedes ambulance with 14 flashing blue lights on the front and alternating flashing headlights and hears the 100w siren and by this time the vehicle horn as well.

That gets on my nerves a little.

as stated
Those who don't know how to use a roundabout

When I learnt to drive you were taught if you were going straight across a roundabout (which was essentially a crossroads), you were told to adopt the right hand lane and hug the roundabout.

In France if you adopt the left hand lane (bear in mind you will still be hugging the roundabout) drivers get very irate if you drive straight across.

In the UK I tend to adopt the left hand lane where there is a two lane space going around the roundabout. My offspring always moan about it.

What about you Sir?

I actually can't believe that I originally started this thread almost 7 years ago and it has got dragged up somehow !

And yes, my original moan is still pretty much in evidence :)

It just shows David that your standard of driving over the years has not improved ;);)

One of the things that really irritates me is drivers joining motorways.

Why do they hog the centre of the slip road and accelerate so slowly that they only get up to 50mph by the time they hit the motorway - causing users already on the motorway to have to change lanes ? Are these people stupid ? Rant Rant....

It is much easier to slow down than to accelerate so I always try to hit the motorway at 70-80 and then synchronize my speed to the gap.

Anything irritate you?

As you have referred us back to the OP David, two thoughts.

Firstly, when joining a motorway, join at 90 then speed up. You may remember that, when changing down in a gearbox with no synchromesh, if you raise the revs above those required in the lower gear, it never crunches. If you do not achieve the revs required in the lower gear, it always does.

Secondly, your point about traffic joining at a slower speed, but asserting its "right to merge", may well have been at the root of the mass pile up on the M5 at Taunton recently. Short uphill on ramp, car coming from a local address, cold engine, very short acceleration lane, bad visibility, heavy motorway traffic going too quickly for the conditions. Perhaps we will never hear the outcome of the enquiry. Enquiries rarely tend to be critical of the deceased, but I would be surprised if these underlying features of that entry ramp were not a major feature in the cause of the chaos.

Now, where is the chap who designed this death trap?

Alex, if the car had only just been invented and someone proposed the the real life scenario on paper that we have to endure now, it would have been laughed off as impossible
