E-Class. An old mans car?

i suppose the CL that I drive is an old mans car

Well it is an old man's car but not necessarily an old man's car...if you know what I mean.

Very few young men can afford to buy a Mercedes or indeed any other premium-priced brand. Even if the car is fairly ancient, the insurance premiums can be prohibitive.

I can now confirm that I have now purchased an old man's car :lol:

An E-Class AMG Sport, which I should get on September 20th. I have opted for Tenorite Grey, but have 2-3 weeks to alter the spec.

My parents bought their first Merc when mum retired at 55, then a year later added to the c250 with an original slk230k...this is still in the garage with 15k on the clock....the c was replaced with another c estate now an Audi a4 as the w203 was junk after 8 years..

Mine is my first, I was 37 with 2 kids when I bought it.. Always loved the, regardless of age due to the solidity of the w124 and the w202 and 190.

Some at work use the hearse line, I really couldn't care, someone said oh I'm surprised you didn't get an Audi....it was a good deal and a nice car, more for money than over at Audi at the time...

Old man car...well it's not a sporty car...but I have one of those too

Before I bought mine I always used to joke that it should be illegal to sell any of the big MB saloons to anyone under 50, then I drove one and was hooked!!

People who call them old men's cars have never driven one.

Funny how this is the cheapest car i have bought since 2001 but actually have got the most admiring glances from since i have owned it , the CLS does say "money" even though it cost as much as a ford fiesta

Now when my old man bought his first w113 or 280sl to everyone else in 1965 , you where considered doing very well for yourself :lol:

shame it rusted through after 25 years though , i would have loved to of paid to get it restored

A good 113 still sells for mega bucks, about £7k new back then

Once upon a time Mercs were so expensive in relation to other cars that you would have to spend most of a lifetime saving up for one. So you would be late middle age or elderly by the time you got one.

These days, with cars like the A-class, that hardly applies.

Just to add a mate hopped in mine today, and he said wow this is nice, much nicer than I expected.. I thought it would be all 'old man' but hm comfy, nice, solid.. Good car, 100k miles its like new.. But what's the wierd wood dash about needs to be brushed metal

It's my car (of which I'm very proud) on my drive, on a thread about E Classes.

I suppose I could have photographed the mother in laws Nissan at Aldi to avoid being a show off .

Though I'm definitely showing off my lovely wheels in that shot :lol:
