I remember painting some box vans with coach paint and a roller,
should I send a quote ? :D:D

.

I painted the Somerset with an Electrolux Vacuum Cleaner and its accessory spraygun....the orange peel was something else!

You don't think all these ferraris and whatnot in London are all actually made of gold or whatever , they're wrapped , and while they may look hideous , a chrome finish is going to show imperfections more than anything and they don't !

Wraps are excellent quality nowadays , there are a few cars round my way that have been wrapped different colours , Matt colours etc , they're all good.

The most popular seems to be to make cars white , because it's the trendy colour at the moment. But in a few years when everyone comes to their senses and realises that White is for African taxis , they can peel the wrap off instead of having a worthless car if they'd actually specced it in white from the factory.

My experience has been you only get what you pay for, 500-1000 expect a mask up quick flat with a DA sander and flash over with one pack. 2-3000 car stripped of fitting and brightwork detailed masking, good amount of inspection and repair to panels, quality primer, base and clear/solid pigment 3-5 base coats plus 3 generous clear coats, 3000+ total vehicle strip, prep better than factory,example;-

I would not vinyl wrap, its OK.

Any particular reason you say that or is it just personal choice?

I've seen loads of wrapped cars. Some look like my 2yr old did it and some you can't tell unless you take trim off the car (which is what the reputable companies do).

I know when Mercedes did the DR520 AMG's they were wrapped from the factory.

The only company I can name off the top of my head that I know do wrapping properly is Midlands Car Care. But if you do a search and you find a company just google them and see what reviews they get.

If you follow MCC on Facebook they seem to do it quite often on all types of car and they strip trim etc off them to do it properly.

I've wrapped bits and pieces on my car (grille surround, wing mirrors, spoiler, interior trim etc) as well as an iPad before. As long as you use good wrap (mine was genuine 3M) have patience, time, correct tools and attention to detail then it's quite therapeutic.

No one knows the lasting qualities yet, , can you polish it ?? It would have to be done well for me to like it, the inner edges would have to be done and the insides of the doors.

You can wax them and there are specific waxes available for Matt wrapped cars. The gloss wraps etc you can apply sealant although usually there is no need if you care for them properly.

The wraps I did on my car lasted the 4yrs I had it and had no sign of failing. They were only removed at the request of the dealer I traded the car in with. They generally say expect about 5yrs life. BUT that is down to the way the car is looked after and cared for.

As I said, the good companies do remove things like door trim etc to finish behind it so that to the untrained eye it looks painted. They also do the A/B/C pillars. Unlike one I saw recently which was a Car wrapped in Matt black and when the guy opened his door you could see the silver pillars.

But as with anything you get what you pay for. The main benefit though is that you can return the car to it's original colour very easily if you want to sell on or change your mind.

This probably sounds like I'm a car wrapper or think it's the best thing since sliced bread! Lol. I don't as I believe both painting and wrapping have their place.

If my first name happened to start with Sheikh then I would paint every time. But if working in a budget then I would seriously consider wrapping.

In fact I'm starting to understand your aversion to wrapping now!

Wrapping is by far the easiest way to go : There's a company I've heard doing great work , on an approach to one of the tunnels in Liverpool , they've wrapped brand new white Range Rovers Black, cos they are so rare to buy !

Its not only for art work - think : if a panel gets scratched / damaged - just re-wrap it , done whilst you wait ?

You can't wrap a scored or damaged panel as the damage will show up even more.

Do they do a clear wrap as a protective measure for stone chips etc.
Or just to deepen the gloss.

The clear wrap has been around for ages, 3M brought it out years ago to protect front leading edges from stone chipping, but it never took off.

Probably due to cost. I've seen a few cars with it on. Normally when they want it removing! :p
