glad I could contribute to the 2% of this pole, it was a bit lonely there :D , got my first MB at 18 and still have it and would probably keep it for at least another 6 years. will stick to mercedes and bmws for the future.

yes but technically the toyotas are the household cars as opposed to the german cars that are purely in my personal use though I am still responsible for maintaining the toyotas. But I am done with japanese cars after germans infact selling one soon.

haha you are right, but I like my bmw and looking at the above poll I guess my age demographic maybe better suited towards there as well plus over here the image of bmw is a wee bit more neutral as compared to what I assume the flash image of bmw drivers in uk. though I see a lot of M cars and 5 series at the bmw dealer ( some of whom's owners fashion sense I may not agree with compared to a sea of s and e classes at the merc dealer driven by mostly gentleman or as Is common here chauffeurs, either way Mercedes will be my first love and true achievement at 18.

Is a Merc still a luxury car? They used to be thin on the ground years ago because they were ****** expensive compared to the rest of the cars available .... I posted a scan from a 1968 local rag a while ago & a Merc (forget now which model) was twice the cost of the others. Now, they're everywhere, there's even one outside my house

It depends on the market segment the car is sold in.

The A-class is a B/C segment vehicle. It is more premium (and expensive) than the majority of its competitors but it is not a luxury car.

The E-class is an E (executive) segment vehicle. It is more premium than the majority of its competitors but due to the way the market has shifted (BIK tax etc) it is now much more mainstream than it was say 1998-2006.

The S-class/ coupe/ roadster is a luxury car platform. The G_Wagen is a luxury car. They're all squarely in the realms of luxury. However if you want to define a whole business stream of luxury cars, Ferrari or Lamborghini will do well as an example.

In all segments, MB tends to sell £ wise towards the top of the segment. It might be more accurate to say that MB sells luxury cars plus a lot more premium mainstream cars

I have a banning order against posting pics of my good self. It causes uncontrollable wide-on's for the females.

    You can't fight biology. :p

They must do something for somebody otherwise MB wouldn't make or sell them, but IMHO ;) they're a ****** expensive looking Defender with a 3 point star on the front  They had a Bi-turbo G Wagen in Bolton last year, a sni at £140k

The thing is, since the 80s pretty much the automotive sales market runs in pretty clearly-defined segments, and manufacturers supply cars that meet those segments. They're now legally defined.
