Mercedes SL 280 R129 1997 Model

Hi

Im looking for a replacement front wing for my Sl 280 1997, I don't mind painting one to match the Brilliant Silver (744) panel, my body shop suggested to replace rather than try and cut out rust from the wing.

I've found one from a 199 SL 500 and was wondering if the panel changed any with various facelifts ? Mine has the indicators in the wing (clear)

Hope you can help or do you have one for sale?

Look at the vents behind the wheel. 2 slots is facelift, 3 slots is pre facelift.
If you match the number of slots it should fit. Unfortunately you can't use indicator lens colour as they are interchangeable and many pre facelift cars have clear indicators (such as my 1993).

Ok thank you, I have purchased one from the R129.co who were very helpful, question I now have, what would you treat the inner arch with to help prevent rust ? and when it comes to paint has anybody got any idea what paint to use ? its Brilliant Silver 744, I appreciate my body work guy will have his own suggestions but it would be nice to show some knowledge of past members experience with period paint and lacquer etc.

Yes I would treat it and no recommendations on paint. At that age the paint will be water based of some kind I believe. .
